Techno "killers" rant

I have been shopping for an ebook reader and spending a lot of time on the tech review sites.
I have to say I am really getting tired of the product Y a product X killer?

The attitudes that say Red is a film killer. DSLRs are Red Killers, AF100 is the Scarlet killer iPad is the Kindle killer. Android is the iphone killer. FCP is the Avid Killer.

Why are we so obsessed with dictator technologies. So captivated with the idea that there is only one product and all others have to kill it to take its place.
Is that really what we want?
Choice and competition drive new technology. So can everything stop being a killer please and we can all just buy what we like and what suites are needs.

As long as we're killing the term "killer", can we also kill "game changer"?
There's a thread on Red User about the iPad slate app being a game changer. C'mon, a slate?
What's next? The revolutionary C-48, which replaces the industry standard C-47, will be a real game changer.

And what's up with all these rants?! Can't we whine, ***** and moan anymore? Is it more PC to rant? Some people do a whole project about ranting. ;)

Terry I really hate these new avatars of yours man..where is the old" one man band" one ?

God It annoyed the heck out of me :)

Well when video cameras came out it was called a film killer. It's been more than 50 years now...

People love competition... I just ignore it all...

Agreed Huffington Post even does a right up on "game changers" I guess its their 50 most influential people.

I decided the whole "killer" thing was ridiculous back when every company under the sun was releasing an "iPod-killer". Now look where we are...

As a consumer I'm inured to apps and products that merely 'kill' their predecessors.

I now refuse to spend money on any product or service that doesn't go beyond merely killing its competitors to tying them up, sexually humiliating them, torturing them for a bit, then defiling, dismembering, and burning their corpses. Capering about wearing their flayed hides a definite plus.

Marketing people, take heed.
