tdi/550 best audio settings with magic lantern

has anybody figured out acceptable settings used on t2i with magic lantern for recording audio..anything to keep switched off or on

i find the analogue gain crates a lot of hiss when turned up

i have rode videomic

cheers

Turning off the AGC is the first step, but keeping the gain as low as possible will minimize the hiss. In order to do that, the incoming signal must be very strong. The original VideoMic isn't going to be strong enough to allow minimized gain in-camera. The VideoMic Pro has a +20dB boost that can do this.

Keep in mind that in-camera audio for DSLR cameras, even with manual level control and without AGC, isn't going to be perfect. If you have a better device for recording sound, use it.

Moving to the APS-C canon section (where there is currently already a sticky that discusses exactly this- but mostly what Alex already said).

Make sure the digital gain is turned down and the audio gain is turned up. Anyone know how to save these settings so that when you take the battery out it sticks?

Actually, the preamps in the camera are pretty bad, so the trick is to have both gains (digital and analog) at zero for the best results.
You can raise a bit of the analog gain if you really have no other choice, and then digital gain if you have no choice after that (however, at that point you might want to explore other options).

The settings can be saved in the ML menu (creates a file, Magic.cfg on the card), however all current builds have been automatically saving the Magic.cfg upon turning off the camera anyway. Unless you're using a version of ML from months ago (which I wouldn't recommend), it automatically saves all your settings.
