Tascam DR-70D discount!

Regardless, for what you get, the DR-70D is a steal at $300, and even more of a steal at $270. I remember when the first DR-60D was coming, people speculated the price would be $400-$500 and even at that price it was considered extremely affordable compared to the competition that wanted $600-$1000 for equivalent gear. Today, you have the DR-70D at less than $300?! Wow. We live in amazing times, I tell you. I have the DR-60D and the DR-70D, and I must say, I'm pretty satisfied - I really don't see that I need more than what the 70D delivers for my needs, but obviously, I'll take a look at what the eventual 80D delivers. As is, the 70D pretty much satisfies me fully (for my projects). I paid the full $300 when it came out, even knowing that eventually it'll come down in price, and I'm happy I did - it wouldn't have been worth it to wait 5 months for a $50 price drop. $270 for the 70D is a steal any way you cut it. FWIW, B&H frequently runs package deals for the 70D where they charge $300, but throw in free software, cards and the like. Totally worth checking out. We're lucky to have so many options.

Agree 100%
I grew up in audio production in the 1980's and ran a 3-studio recording complex in the 90's, and I am still utterly FLOORED by the type of quality products we can now get - like this Tascam DR-70D - at prices that are so low that price is not even a factor anymore. Compared to what we had in the 80's and 90's this thing is better and it's FREE.

Thanks for posting this. I just joined as well! Even if it doesn't drop past $270, it's cheaper than everywhere else!

More people need to take advantage of this one.

I've been stunned at the priced drops over the past decade. Back in 2005 you would buy a Deva V complete package for close to $15K. Now you can get equipment that is twice as capable for half the cost. Individual components are becoming less expensive to make, which makes for lower cost equipment that does a good job. I have the original DR-60D and love it for what I need it to do. Tascam has really found a knack for hitting the lower cost price to performance ratio properly. My hat is off to them.

"I've been stunned at the priced drops over the past decade"
Indeed Dave. But despite conventional thinking, the skill level needed to produce great audio hasn't dropped.
Camera prices too. Twenty or so years ago, a cam op buddy of mine payed around $80k for his first dockable Betacam system.. which weighed close to 30lbs with a Sun Gun and two Anton/Bauer bricks.

People living outside the USA, note the relatively low shipping rates, $10.42 to Europe or Israel is also a bargain. I joined it.

BTW at where the price is now, B&H has it ob sale for. If they get 10 to 15 committed though the price will be better.

Just FYI for anyone coming to this after the Massdrop sale has ended, both Amazon and B&H currently have the DR-70D on sale for $179.

In addition to this sale being even better than Massdrop's, shipping can be very slow as Massdrop appears to use the cheapest shipping method to send out orders. It took over 3 weeks to receive the item I ordered from when it was shipped out. Thankfully I didn't need the item I ordered incredibly quickly, but I don't think I will be ordering from Massdrop again as a result.

One day sale is over - price is back to $300 at B&H, but $274 at Amazon. Anyone want my DR60 for $100? :)

Don't be too quick to lose it. The DR70 CANNOT monitor individual tracks like the DR60 can. There is no MONITOR SELECT function. This might make you hate the DR70 in actual use. I am giving it a 50/50 for myself.
