Not in my experience, or in the view of SLRGear.com…

"There really isn't much of a contest between the Canon and Tamron lenses - for a few hundred dollars more, the Canon lens is sharper, though its distortion profile and resistance to CA is a bit worse. Corner shading is about the same. The build quality is much higher with the Canon, and autofocus speed is much faster."

DADASALAM, remember this is the VC version we're talking about. All reviews say the the VC is less sharp compared to the older non-vc version. For video, it shouldn't matter though.

lol I didn't mean to start a tamron vs. canon argument..

really when it comes to gear and lenses, only the buyer can decide. Everyone has a different taste and I like to see videos before making a decision. I find run+gun videos are always more helpful to me than technical or scientific videos showing sharpness or anything else, as it in the end comes down to a sense of preference for the aesthetic qualities a lens has on video.

Ultimately you never know 100% before you buy, but I hope these shots using both lenses helps someone else as its the kind of thing I would have liked to see before I was buying. :)

I didn't use the Canon, but Tamron is always on my 7D, it's sharp and solid..Never made me think of Canon option..
