General T5i + Magic Lantern?

MLV ( Magic Lantern Video ) is raw, with better performance , using the latest version, Try it and get to know it , takes time and experimentation, in order to decide what are the useful functions for your particular style or system.
Instead of MLV, I increase the bit rate to 2x, , it means I have 90 mbs instead of 45 mbs, which is great for color grading and effects.

Any reason to believe it would be less stable on T3i? Mainly considering it for audio metering/monitoring..maybe increasing bit rate of compressed vid. By the way, how do you get headphone into cam?

I guess is as stable, I use a XLR adapter with phantom, DB gain and headphone monitoring plug, By the way the latest versions of MLV are muh more stable, for example I can record continous with audio MLV at 1280 x 544 resolution.
Increasing bit rate up to 1.8 which is the highest I do for continous recording do not affect audio at all not either with MLV at the mentioned resolution, that you can upscale in Aftereffects in post with RedGiant plugin

So you don't monitor/confirm audio right out of the camera somehow? I thought that was a benefit of ML.

MLV RAW isn't full HD?

Not T5i other models yes, however there are audio levels so you can confirm audio levels, but for other instances the XLR converter with headphone monitoring is the only way.
Over all I'm very happy with the quality you can get increasing bit rate, with the Mosaic engineering VAF filter, for such a minimum price.
Just 3 years back you needed 10.000 to get this results, Experiment , theory doesn't work , You need to get your feet wet.

Any difference in heat build up/shutdown?
I have record 30 minutes interviews, at 2x bit rate without any problem.
Enjoy your camera, I'll be out for a some weeks now.
Again don't go by the numbers, practice.
Canon rebel cameras look weak but are very strong.

I've been using Magic Lantern since it first came out for the T2i. I won't shoot without it. Super stable, never had any issues except with the bitrate and RAW. HDR video works great, cropmarks, meters, peaking is solid. I like having an audible tone for record/stop, and I LOVE lighting for one picture style but being able to record in another - it's like having a built in LUT setup.
