T3i kills the t2i and 60d sales?

Wow, I thought the 60D body alone was 1,100.. That's at a pretty good price. If I wanted to upgrade, i'd definitely choose the 60D over the T3i. But for what I do, neither the 60/t3i is worth the upgrade... I think the only upgrade worth going to from the t2i would be a new FF dslr.

That's what I've been waiting for, but the 550D just sort of got sold suddenly unplanned, and I picked up a 60D the same day.
The 5Dmk3 is still at the top list, but the 60D should make a good b cam to the FF.
The smaller sensor has some advantages for run n gun shooting. Focus is not as critical so both formats will be valuable to have.

It took about a year for Magic Lantern to get released for the T2i. I'd not hold my breath on something for the T3i too soon. (not to put words in Hudson's mouth...)

I am planning to buy a camera in June, I need to change my miniDV consumer cam.
I wonder how things will be like by then concerning prices, official and unofficial (ML) firmware upgrades to the T3i and T2i...
My current project for this purchase is T2i w/ kit lens + Canon 50mm. ML firmware of course.
Anyway, sorry for a bit of off topic.

I don't know the darkest arcanes of it but a firmware upgrade on the 7D blocked the ML development, could Canon possibly do this for the newer cams like this new toy ?

Concerning the reliability of Magic Lantern, I would like to add that if a respected cinematographer like P. Bloom uses it, it is safe to go for it. I have been reading a lot about it latelyand haven't read someone complaining about a broken cam yet.

Bloom has a pile of cameras and can afford to take chances. If there was ever a problem he can just grab another and give it to one of his staff to mess around with. Most people here have one camera to depend on at a time with no IT staff to delegate to. However good ML is, it does modify the camera's original program and not 100% reliable for 100% of users/ hackers. Personally I'm am a professional cinematographer which is what pays the rent, but I'm a lousy hacker.
These cameras are not expensive to upgrade anyway. The cost of a new body gets covered on one shoot. If you have time on your hands and not at risk to loose a client, then it's safe to mess around with ML. If you have clients paying for results, buy or rent the right gear for the job. If something goes wrong you can't blame it on Magic lantern. Go for what ever your good at and sleep at night at the same time.

One thing to keep in mind with ML.... it's on the card. Format the card, and you're back to factory settings.

Co-sign. I don't see it happening at all..... I'm sure his efforts will instead be focused on the soon-to-be released 5D MKIII
The Rebels are recycled out almost yearly. The 5D range sticks around for 24-36 months. The ML for T2i came just a few months before the T3i was announced...

That's comforting to learn, see how bad some people are as hackers.
I format every card, every time it goes back in the camera. I guess that means I would have to reinstall ML every time I change cards which is about 8 to 10 times a shoot day.

@Rockmore, yeah, that's definitely good practice to reformat the card. Fortunately, all you have to do is copy and past the cropmarks folder and autoexec.bin onto the card, so it's not very time consuming. (At say, a liberal one minute to complete the task, that'd take 8 minutes out of your shoot day.)

That's 8 minutes too many on a shoot when time is money and action comes and goes while your pushing buttons. Like I said if you have time, go for it, if you're working, paying for a location, crew and talent with a client breathing down your neck, better have the best camera on set for the job. I still use an EX3 as my primary camera and DSLRs as b-cams. Even thought I prefer the look of the DSLR and they are replacing the Sony, the EX3 is a wee bit faster under pressure.

There's a function in the T2i that allows you to clear all images. So, COPY your files onto your computer and/or hard drive. Then, put the card back in your camera (it will still be a full card). Then delete all images off the card. This will empty your card and keep ML on the card.

Better than re-installing ML every time.

T2i vs. T3i

T2i vs. T3i

The ONLY improvement from the T2i is the LCD screen. Other than that, it's exactly like the T2i. It doesn't have the audio improvements like the 60d, the histograms, etc.

T3i is still at the bottom of the barrel as far as HDSLRs are concerned. Well, now the T2i is.

I've read that the T3i will have sensor crop. Not a bad feature. T2i already has it, but only at SD. Apparently T3i will do full 1080p.

Another sales gadget here today, gone tomorrow. Better upgrade to a longer lens for the future.

Why would they get rid of that feature? Its a selling point, people love bird watching, I just love putting my 500mm on and looking into people's apartments...I mean trees and birds....yah thats what I said.... see here is some proof...

I had the 550D for 10 months and didn't even know about it. I suppose it could be useful, but in the past digital zooms were pretty bad quality in general. I may be wrong, just have to see some side by side full rez examples to know for sure.

Edit post/

Well I just looked at the clip. Don't take this personally but the quality is not overwhelmingly great. Better get a longer lens.

Thats just the 500 mm, not the SD crop.
Just posted the clip as a joke about the peeping into apartments /bird watching
