T3i kills the t2i and 60d sales?

Many of you are missing the biggest thing added with the crop function. Use a bright lens for that extra DOF to compensate, and potentially lose the moire and AA issues. This is one of the biggest complaints with DSLR video. The 10x would be useless, but the 3x crop could reduce a lot of issues potentially. You can bet this will be a big feature of the 5D3 which will allow a healthier 3x crop.

Canon is dumb..!
shocked this T3i camera does not have even half of what ML put on the T2i

but if thy have full hdmi output & ALL frame rates supported,
I will take it all back.. EHEH

I don't see how they're "retarded", they manage to always get these dslrs sold out in the first couple of weeks... And i'm not really surprised at the new T3i, they release a new rebel camera every year and only add few new features that are mostly minor and sometimes significant. If I was a company I wouldn't pack it full of great features either, then how will I able to sell my "higher level" cameras?

So the t3i has manual audio (kills t2i.... Even though ml has other great features) and swivel screen. (kills 60d)

If you're looking at video only, the t3i just made the t2i and 60d pretty useless.
Useless unless someone wants a used one. Did they fix the dreaded Canon moire and overheating issues yet?

Canon will not fix the dreaded moire until the next release. That way, they can give you the same product and take more of your money by offering very little. It's thinking like that, that is causing many people to switch from Canon to the GH2. Including myself.

but people will buy the new t3i to try out the new digital zoom x3 x10 like me =p

Glad I ordered a T2i last week(/sarcasm). I was looking around but didn't see this coming! sheesh. I guess I am glad I am getting into the dslr video world.

Problem is myself and many others will NEVER install a hack system on a camera. Same thing with people using the hacked Gh1, I would never place an unreliable firmware on the tools I use for a living. Simply will never do it... So the t2i with whatever hack that people use with it is simply not an option for me as well as many others.

bulls**t - sorry: the Magic Lantern Hack is stable and the GH 13 Hack is stable:Drogar-Mark-01(DBG)

No one needs a 600D - ok the swiveling display is better, but otherwise

Otherwise it's the same camera, just a different year. Time for a real update. 5D mark3 PLEASE. I do like the Canon color aesthetic and a better choice of fast IS lenses, but besides that, Canon is seriously falling behind. And yes... nobody needs a 600d.

other than that, I believe the 60D will for a very long time be the only camera anyone should consider

Only reason I don't think that will be true is because for those of us who use an external monitor, that ~900 lines of resolution the 7D (and only the 7D and MKIV) outputs while recording is a huge plus. When you're on a wireless video system, any change in resolution can either a) completely cut out the feed b) cause a long (longer than normal because you're wireless) pause while it searches for the new signal.

For about $100 difference the 60D is a better camera in terms of control placement. I did an overlay matching the lens mount so you can see the 60D and the 600D are quite different.

So the Canon video DSLR list now comes to:

T3
T1i
T2i
T3i
60D
7D
5D MKII

And hardly of them have a single thing different that couldn't have been done with a simple installable upgrade. If we can hack it, Canon sure as hell can upgrade it. Hands down, the T1i, T2i, and T3 (not even out yet) are entirely irrelevant cameras in the face of the 60D, which almost eclipses the 7D and even the MKII depending on the shooter's preference. Canon really have lost their minds with this camera series, the only thing that sounds interesting is the new 1080P crop mode, which could be useful....other than that, I believe the 60D will for a very long time be the only camera anyone should consider, if the T3i doesn't have the dedicated ISO's or White Balances simply because Canon decided they needed to make worse than the 60D somehow. I mean really, why can't Canon just make a "perfect" camera? Instead, they make one for every $100 step that someone has in their budget, with all of them having some tiny feature that another doesn't, with the exception of the T2i, T3, and T1i, which should all three be awarded 'Fail of the Year' awards for how lame of cameras they truly are. And now this means I can't even sell my T2i for more than $300 to invest in a 60D, this camera really is not worth anything anymore! Unless I sell it to someone who really wants to hack it.

The only reason I don't want to dive into the 60D is because I honestly like the mode dial being on the right side (how in the world do you turn it being on the left side? With it being on the right, it's very easy.) and the T3i has the same set-up as the T2i, which I enjoy. But if the T3i doesn't have the dedicated ISO's or White Balances, or is lacking anything else, I won't go near it. And in general, I want a 60D so darn bad, it is all-around the true camera that is worth the $1,000+ I paid for a worth-less-than-$500 T2i. I pretty much hate shooting with the thing because it was such a complete rip-off, for a $1,000, a camera should have everything the 60D does - the 60D is one of the few cameras out there that's really entirely worth it's price.

You can not be serious abut your judgment of the T2i. If so, you should be forced to film you next movie with a VX1000 which you have to purchase at it´s original list price.
There has never been a better bang-for-the-buck video camera than the T2i/550D.

What I want to know is why does Canon announce a new Rebel every year, but only update their pro line every couple of years? Just imagine where we would be now if ALL Canon's were updated every year at the beginning of the year.

Because, since photography is their business, they have to aim for 2 markets. The first is the home consumer who wants the latest and greatest, but isn't going to be willing to shell out more than $800 or so. By putting out a new series of cameras in this price range every year, they can convince people to buy a new camera much sooner than they otherwise would have in order to get the extra features.

For the pro photographers, though, they aren't going to buy a new body (or 3) every year. They are going to invest in their bodies, and then use them for several years until there is a very significant upgrade. They know that small incremental upgrades don't make a significant difference when it comes to image quality, so they aren't going to shell out $6000 for a new pair of 5D's every year.

Since they obviously see that video is a steadily increasing market, I'm sure that it will only be a few more years before we start seeing moire-free camera bodies and more lenses with built in IS. For right now, though, there isn't a strong incentive for them to put a ton of money into a new sensor design and plunk that into their budget cameras.

A new logo with a swivel screen. Hilarious.. Maybe it helps the hackers to re-engineer it. Should have waited a month with getting the 550D.

Where is it available for only $100 more? Everywhere I've looked it's at least $300 more.

Yeah, I guess manual audio is a step in the right direction at this price point, but still annoying as hell not being able to view/adjust audio levels while recording or at least enable audio during recording through the HDMI output so it could be monitored on a monitor like Cineroid with headphone jack.

This looks interesting and could be useful for assembling quick footage without having to go to computer first.

There's an intriguing 'Video Snapshot' movie mode too, that's borrowed from Canon's camcorder range. This is based on the idea that movies are often more interesting when stitched together from a number of short 'takes', rather than one long continuous clip. It therefore limits movie recording to short snippets of 2, 4 or 8 seconds, then plays them back sequentially as a composite movie, with the option of adding a soundtrack to help tie them together. This, in effect, allows to you produce complex, multi-take movies without having to resort to computer editing.

Does anyone know more about this feature? I'm assuming it will allow you to trim in & out points of each short clip and allow you to arrange sequence of clips. Looks fun to experiment with.

Anyway, I think a clearer picture of the 5DIII is coming into focus. To have the 5DIII stand out and above the 60D/T3i, I think were looking at Digic V with much improved imaging in the aliasing/moire area with the ability to monitor/adjust audio levels while recording, and apparently a little video editing suite in camera, and of course a flip out screen. If Canon does this, the 5DIII will be a must have.

The T3i just makes me yearn for what this cam could be with just a few minor tweeks. It's so close. I'd rather have the T3i over the T2i, but not quite enough to get if you already have the T2i. The T3i will be a huge success anyway, I'm sure.

The popularity of the T3i in the videography community will rest largely on the quality of the digital zoom feature. If it's a gimmick, used T2is w/ ML will be the go-to. If the digital zoom is OK, then the T3i will be a cheaper alternative to the 60D and non-ML T2is will be useless.

I suppose eventually there will be a ML hack for the t3i as well, but in the mean time, the "killer" feature for me is audio monitoring on the T2i w/ML.

Articulating screen is awesome, but being able to shut off AGC and manually monitor audio with headphones means I can really use my T2i to replace bigger cams in my daily workflow.

Last I checked, the only 2 cams that can do this are the 5D and T2i, since the 7D is "locked up" and the 60D's Magic Lantern hack is in its infancy. For my price range, the 5D is not an option, so t2i is really the only functional unit for now.

I'm sure all that will change, and I'm all for new innovative models coming out.
