Ah, gotcha. A little archive goes a long way.Right. My question was more "Why keep the H.264 at all?" Now I know.
This is how I've been doing it. It's a process, but it's fairly easy.
1. Attach camera
2. Open "Image Capture"
3. Select the files you need and a folder to place them
4. Wait for process
5. Open comressor
> a. Import your files
> b. Export using Apple ProRes codec
6. Delete original files
7. Import the new ProRes into Final Cut Pro
8. Enjoy
