T2i should have it's own area in the forum?

I saw this posted and was about to respond. I realized that this is probably an issue that is big enough to have it's own thread: What do you guys say?

So you think the T2i owners should have a new subforum simply because you cannot deal with the questions? From what I've seen, a lot of T2i video questions will have the same answers as the 7D. That alone would make one forum for both cameras a logical choice.

...noone is asking me, I realize, but I think that the question (here on this site) of how to group the forum is obviously an organizational question. Here's some stuff to consider.

1. 7d owners: Do you really want to have your area of the forum FLOODED for the first 4-6 months of the T2i's life span? I'm not saying you do or don't...I AM saying that you're poor area has already become "over-run" with T2i pre-hype/wishing/wondering/praying/begging/pleading....etc. Is that what you want?

2. My camera is as good as yours BUT CHEAPER! NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH...(tounge hanging out) It seems like having us in the same area is just asking for ENDLESS bickering, fighting, comparisons....which is fine, but it might be better if people from another area of the forum HAVE TO COME LOOKING for a fight, rather than posting a harmless post in the T2i area that says..."hey look I think this is better than the 7d!" If it's IN THE 7D AREA...that's going to invite a 200 post RANT about why that's not true. I don't mind that happening...just not "in my master bedroom". 7d owners shouldn't have to have the T2i rubbed in their face. They know where to look if they want to know. Maybe another area would be good for this purpose? (maybe not....what do you all say?)

3. Finding answers from a group of people that are all learning together. It's great all of the info that the 7d owners have acumulated. It might be a bit difficult as a group of new T2i owners start learning about this camera and the 7d group all say...."old news...we already knew that!" That's fine as long as you were a part of writing it six months ago...a new T2i owner will have "old" 7d questions. (maybe not? ...what do you think?)

4. This new camera likely represents a NEW PERSON. Many folks have been standing on the side lines thinking....this would be fun, but 2000 is just too much. I think we're going to see a lot of new people with basic questions. I also think it will be someone from a different BACKGROUND than a 7d owner. Alot the 7d owners were 5d owners....professional photogs, aspiring film makers, etc. I think the T2i will have some of these, but probably a lot of ASPIRING HOBBIESTS. Meaning....it's a big step to try ANY of this. What's F-stop? (Is that when someone on the freeway slams on their brakes?) What's ISO? This doesn't bother me AT ALL. Do all of you 7d owners what to have your area flooded with this? (maybe not? ...?)

5. New technologies on the T2i that are NOT on the 7d. So when people have questions, posts, or comments about: VGA crop. Auto focus. Custom Auto ISO (Max). These need to be hashed out and explored. Do 7d owners want that in their area of the forum?

6. Google search/external searches. When the interweb is FLOODED with searches about the T2i....many will end up here. It will be HARD of someone who doesn't KNOW the similarities between the 7d and T2i...to find info. (Are they just going to magically know to look the 7d area? ...this would confuse me if I didn't know this fact.) I realize that CANON is calling the T2i, the "Baby 7d" already. That doesn't mean a new person searching for info on the web would.

I'm sure there is more to consider....but what do you all think?

UPDATED: Good reasons for keeping it the same!

1. Same question for both cams will be in TWO areas. (7d and T2i) (by shoacaholica)

Isn't the point of these forums for answering questions? Lets see, theres now some confusion about AF between the 7D and T2i. If there were 2 subforums, that same question about AF would get brought up in both forums.

If it doesn't get it's own subforum, I'm going to start asking questions about the Rebel on the 5dII forum. Why not? It's also a HDSLR right? Same thing.

I agree. To me it makes absolutely no sense why it would be bundled into the 7D forum. I can't understand why these threads are even here on the 7D forum to begin with versus the general DSLR Equipment Forum.

It's a different camera. For organizational sake alone it should have its own forum. Is it really that hard to go to a different subforum to talk about a different camera?

That said, I'm curious how popular this camera will be on here. There was very little talk regarding the T1i. But then that wasn't really a tool many of us were looking to use. I know I held off on the T1i expecting its update to have 1080/24p and it does. So I'll be buying and using it for hobby film work. But how many others will?

I hear you roxics. I know (I'm assuming the answer here) why there isn't a Pentax Kx area for example. It hasn't caught on enough to have it's own area. I don't think we want a separate area for EVERY camera. Just every camera that has a following.

If I were to guess why they haven't YET...it's because it isn't even OUT YET. Having said that....I DO THINK it already has a following. I don't think there is ANY QUESTION that this camera will be explored in great depth on this site. I just wanted to bring this SPECIFIC question to the floor because I think some people didn't think it was a good idea. (fair enough) I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

As a grateful member of this community, it is my perspective that this should happen. (And believe it or not:) I officially propose that a T2i area be added to our community NOW. NOT because the T2i DESERVES it....but because the 7d people deserve to have their area back.

Lets see. Both the 7D and T2i are Canon cameras. They have the same sensor more or less. They have the same menu that controls video functions. There are precedents already for grouping cameras into one forum.

Now, if stills were the meat of this forum then they should be in separate forums but stills are not the what we're here for.

I actually wouldn't mind it they were in the same forum as the questions and discoveries will be very simular. There is something to be said for not having users check too many differant forums if the cameras operate very simular.
I can very easily skip over threads that arn't relevant

Agreed. Separate forum, keep things organized.

Having more forums isn't always a good thing. Soon you'll get the exact same questions asked in multiple forums and the people with answers will feel compelled to participate in both which is a lot of overhead. I think that T2i users will have a lot to benefit and learn from 7D users. Tell me 3 things that you know that differ between the 7D and T2i with respect to video?

1. VGA crop.
2. Auto focus (in video mode).
3. Custom Auto ISO (Max).
4. Body form factor/size/dimension

Here's four off the top of my head.

These are all good points (the ones you've all mentioned so far). I can see that for me it could be easier to watch one forum instead of 2. I agree completely. How do the 7d owners feel about having it flooded with T2i info?

Also accessories "could" be different.
Even if some of the same questions will be asked, at least the people reading those responses know they pertain to the T2i rather than just the 7D. Someone might not know just how close the cameras really are in video specs. Heck we don't really know until we get them in our hands. But the fact that it's a different image sensor along with a single digic 4 proc, different form factor, different price, no 1/3 stop ISOs, VGA crop and some AF. I think that makes it a different enough camera.

I was unaware that 7d had auto focus in video mode. (My ignorance. I understood that it did not.)

All those things are trivial IMO. I wonder how the D90 forum feels about being the sole Nikon forum? That forum has what? D90, D300s, D3s, D5000.

Am I to assume that everything that relates to the 7D is relevant to the T2i as well?

No. VGA crop, Form factor, Custom Auto ISO, are NOT in the 7d.

7d can autofocus in video mode? (Thanks for the clarification)

no 1/3 stop ISOs

...to be discovered...but true that it has been rumoured.

I'm just saying that we've flooded the 7d forum ALREADY with T2i. That's fine by me.

My simplified question is: Are 7d users OK with T2i MANIA taking place in THEIR part of the forum?

See I'm already confused, being a non 7D shooter I didn't know that. Am I to assume that everything that relates to the 7D is relevant to the T2i as well?

You are absolutely right. GREAT POINT. That is a DISADVANTAGE. Good perspective. I'll add this to the first post in this thread.

Not really. Because if I don't own a 7D and I don't shoot with a 7D, why would I need to know that about a 7D? Likewise I'm not going to browse through 7D threads to learn about T2i features. If I've got a T2i question I'm going to ask it. Nothing would annoy me more than someone retorting back saying "why didn't you read this 7D thread?" I think it's obvious why I didn't read the 7D thread.
