T2i, problem viewing LCD in the SUN, any options?

Well, I'm going to chime in on this and note that its completely inaccurate to say the Hoodman doesn't magnify. The new 3.0 diopter certainly does and i've found it great for focusing . its a big sharp picture. The only hassle for me is the mount. I'm reluctant to superglue anything on my camera but maybe that's what it takes. Someone else suggested drilling a hole in the bottom of the hoodman and screwing it to a bracket that mounts on the bottom. I've though I could do with a quick release plate. But maybe velcro is an easier solution.

How secure is the connection with the velcro Scott?

Do you worry that velcro tends to wear out after a long time.

I didn't realize you were talking about the loupe / diopter version of the Hoodman! I was thinking - how does a hood make the image any bigger?! Cool feature putting a director's diopter on there. My bad.

This kinda gives you the swing-away action... http://www.hoodmanusa.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HCRN

As far as mounting goes, did anyone take a look at the Hood Crane.

Seems easy enough to attach and remove, and gives you easy options to reposition it.

Erik your solution earlier with the rods looks nice, but if you have a battery grip attached, then there's no way to raise the loupe higher up to the lcd screen.

Why can't someone come up with a simple thin alluminum l bracket that can attach to a loupe and sit between the camera and battery grip. Maybe develop one that gives your the ability to have a qr lever on it fro quick loupe removal.

BTW, can I mount the RR Microfinder in between my 550d and battery grip?

I am thinking yes, but wanted to make sure before I attempt to spend $55 on a piece of bent metal.

My 2nd link is to that cool little HoodCrane. Like swing-away that goes up and over like better ENG viewfinders! Cool idea using the camera shoe for that. Adjustable offsets too.

On the Cavision lump, there is a $25 bracket that is made to accommodate that complete swing-away system when used on the BG version of the 5dII.

Didn't see the add-on Erik.
The solution seems simple enough with the Hoodcrane, except for the fact that if you have a flash or light mounted on top of your camera and swing the LCD out of the way and up like they show, you will hit the light.

You also lose the ability of your cameras hot shoe when you use the Hoodcrane.

I like the swing away ability of the Cavision, but already have a rail module and am not in need of another.

Have you looked at that carbon cage yet? It seems like a good way to remove the clutter from the camera itself.

I have a DVTEC Multi Rig with their DSLR Extreme Tripod Rig, which gives me rail if desired. I ahve used the DV Multi Rig for years with my video cameras, and it's perfect for DSLRs, as it's totally modular. Not to mention I get the added bonus of being able to use a 2 section support pod, for super steady shots.

I could get something small like the DSLR cage from JAG35, and simply mount a QR plate on that and use it with my DVMulti Rig. But the problem currently is that I use a battery grip for extra power needs, and most manufacturers don;t seem to take this into consideration when they first design DSLR products.

So most cages are too small to accommodate a DSLR with battery grip.
JAG35 is supposed to have a newer model next month. And Zacuto doesn't currently have adapter plates for use with the 550D yet. Again about a month or so on them.

I was actually thinking if there was a way that someone who makes cages could design a LCD loupe that could attach to the side of a cage and swing out/in as the Cavision does. The Cavision as I said is nice, but I have no need for the rail module.

Thanks for the link to the hoodcrane. That must be what the hoodman person was talking to me about last month when she said they were about to come out with a method of adjusting to any camera. I agree that it screws up the flash for stills though and its more than a bit klugey. Still it does work.
