Hey Everyone - directed my first music video this week! Shot it on the t2i with mamiya/sekor and canon lenses, 3 backdrops, and 6 soft boxes.

Here are some iphone stills:

Will keep posting as the edit comes together!

I really like the coloring of the first shot in the video. Looks really good!

Thanks Hawk! We're going for a super crushed very dark stylized look -- at first I had a hard time living with crushing so far that her hair dissappears but everyone seems to like it on our end so we're going to run with it - same with the second shot, looks way cooler WITHOUT the hair light! looking forward to posting some more shots this week!

I'm excited to see this video. Like you said the super crushed look is working wonderfully, and I'm loving the teal like glow screen shots. Can't wait to see more shots!

It's really astounding what amazing shots an $800 camera can take with the right technician, the right lights, and the right editing. Bravo.

Thanks Sam! I'm still amazed at what this little t2i can do...I wonder what would have been possible if this wasn't a one man production! Would have loved a pa or a grip or someone who knew what the hell they were doing! Posting a draft now...

First Draft of 45 second music video teaser! This is just a rough of the first half...some shots are missing and some edits will be taken out (not loving some now that I've stepped away from it for a few hours)

Any and all comments would be supremely helpful!

Agreed on the helicopters... they look a little fake, but only because I was looking for it. I love the colors. I'm so jealous of your (and many other people on this sites') set ups... if I wasn't a student maybe I'd be able to buy stuff for my camera to actually make it shoot quality footage. But as they always say... "It's the man behind the camera, not the camera itself." Or something like that, right? :)

Looks great. Stoked to see the finished product.

Dude, that is sick! Love the look, love the editing. There was a few shots that looked like here was some altered frame rates (30 sec) was that just regular 24fps? can you share your settings?

Hey everyone, filled in some of the missing shots and switched some of the previous edits around..getting close to being done with this 'teaser' video - wondering if we should go ahead and blow out the full song!

Looks great! You should put the video out already, one of the better projects I have seen in a while. WOuld really like to know how you made it all exactly happen with the backgrounds and stuff, very inspiring

thank you

I like it a lot, and I am really glad you took out the completely black cuts when the music stops. But I saw you did already. Great work.

Thanks! Glad you're liking it! What exactly do you have questions about? I'll answer anything :)

How many different blankets/papers etc. did you use for the shoot + what colors? Are you working in after effects?

Also I'm very interested on the dolly you were using. Basically if you could answer these simple questions for me it would allow me to learn a lot more.

thank you

Hey there - What do you mean by "blankets/papers"? And no After Effects, everything was in Final Cut Pro. The 'dolly' was actually just a small dslr slider by a local company here in Hollywood called 'King Midas', it's 6 feet long. I clamped it to a tripod on one end and a light stand on the other..and on the low shot with the african dress and wooden staff I just put the track down on the floor -- worked great.
