T2i Monitoring with AJA HDMI to HD SDI mini converter

Hi,

I was doing a jib shot yesterday and whenever we would hit record, the hdmi signal would stop working out of the camera. The only monitor we had was one of the panasonic 17" with HD SDI. We used a mini HDMI to HDMI cable from the T2i into an AJA HDMI to HD SDI mini converter. Does the HDMI on a T2i blank out during recording? I know it is SD and we could see it fine until we hit record.

when you hit the record on the canon the signal and res changes from the mini hdmi out of the canon dslr . the aja can,t deal with the changing signal.

Your monitor should be able to deal with it though, without a box. 480 is fine for focusing/color/composition in most cases.

The signal isn't going to be better than the SD card in any case... As long as it's in focus at the top, you should be fine, unless it's a very long move.

In theory, yes. But if you read the post again, the monitor in question had only HD SDI, not HDMI. The T2i offers HDMI, not HD SDI. Hence the need for a converter.

I will look at that, thanks! I didn't even think there would be an issue until I was on location :) Composite would be fine for framing on the jib. Shooting at 11mm, you don't need to worry about focus so much (except to de-focus if you have moire issues :) )
