T2i iso 100 noise

I have noticed that there is quite a lot of noise at iso 100. Is anyone else having this problem? maybe the t2i has less noise at iso 200, similar to the 5d markII?

Noise between the T2i, 7D and 5D should be insignificant at ISO 100 and 200 with proper exposure. If you're underexposing, then you'll get more noise but thats true for all cameras.

Stills or footage folks. Noise at 100ISO means you have either got a bad camera (unlikely) or you are underexposing at a given stop (easy to do).

ddirector and chrismagicc, can you give us the specifics on your settings? aperture, lighting... etc.

Well, you pretty much got me paranoid too. lol I did a quick test to see if had any noise issues.

I do see some noise, can someone tell me if this is normal when shooting in conditions and settings like this?

Iso: 100
Aperture: 3.2
Lens: Canon 50mm 1.4
White balance: daylight
Setting: Indoor with daylight from window
Resolution: 1080 @ 24P

The best noise test I have ever seen was done with the lens cap on and the same color correction pushed on every clip.
Maybe this could give you some ideas with your testing.

Below is the noise test done by hermmermferm with his 7D and lens cap on. Video of the test is also below

ISO/Noise tests. 1080/24p, lens cap on. In FCP, native format, maxed the mids, applied same filter to every clip. Large video version is uploading.. Handheld, skewtastic footage to come..

I dont have this camera but with my 7d noise is a problem on anything that isnt a multiple of 160..ie 160, 320, 640 iso...try using those iso's

As I understand, those are the only 'true' ISO's on the camera. Anything in between is basically created using something akin to a gain feature. That's why they appear more noisy.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

There is hardware gain and software gain. The true ISOs are achieved via hardware signal amplification at the AD converter. The false ISOs are done after this hardware gain when the data is already digitized. However, I always thought this was all possible at the hardware level without any software.

What I’ve found is anything above 800 (in 7D) will start to affect the image (meaning it starts to soften). Anything 800 or below (preferably 640) will retain its sharpness (even if you use those that have noise). This is where a tool like Neat Video comes into play.

Those in-between ISOs are great though.
