Summer School now on DVD - Indie Feature

Watch the Summer School Trailer! Several months ago we posted the trailer for our film Summer School and now after 2 years of craziness our hard work finaly has a chance to pay off.
Yes, we have recently completed the film Summer School and are now selling copies at www.randomcreatureface.com! “Summer School” is a story that was based on the experiences of writer/director Ben Trandem. Back in high school, Trandem took Summer School to get a Government class out of the way before the school year started. Being bored out of
his mind, he spent evenings and weekends watching tons of bad B horror films. From thereTrandem developed the story of Charles, a horror film aficionado, who falls into a deep sleep during Summer School classes and becomes entangled in a mesh of nightmares, each involving a different category of the horror genre. Ben enlisted the
help of 5 different writer/directors to complete the vision of the film, allowing each director to choose their favorite genre of horror film. Since all
directors were taught at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design
to make 15 minute shorts, Trandem had no reason to doubt that these director’s
short horror ideas could be combined to make a full feature with a running
narrative. Trandem took all the directors ideas and scripts for each
section and wrote the screenplay. The film was shot on the Panasonic DVX100a
on an $8000 budget in 25 days in the Summer of 2005. It was shot on location
in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in St. Patrick's Catholic School, and in Spooner,
Wisconsin. This is Random Creatureface Films first feature length project. Our final budget for the film was around 35,000 dollars after post production. One thing we learned while making this film is that GOOD original music is indispensible (and expensive) and that proper sound mixing can make the difference between a good film and a great film! If you haven't already, check out the trailer here!
We would love to hear your feedback or questions.

Well for some reason I couldnt watch it,but I'll try it later.
One question,
sound is the most important thing in low budget films as you stated.
I would like to know how much it cost to get the sound mixing done.
I am doing the budget for my feature thats why I am asking.
Thanks
Good day

Good day

The mix cost us about $6000 which is not including the sound design. It really depends on where you take your film. I now work for Tom Hambleton, the guy who did our original score and he wanted to mix the film for $9000. Some places are sympathetic to indies and cut a good deal. Just make sure you get someone who has several years mixing experience. When it all comes down to it, it is worth it. Good mixing AND good sound design AND original music are key in making a film feel less amature and more professional. Sound is 60% of the picture in my book. When getting any of the audio work done, don't settle for anything until you get what you want. Be PICKY!!! Down to the last detail! I can't say our mix is perfect, but the dialogue and my sound design were really pushed out and made much more punchy. Good luck with your feature!

Thanks for the info.I am glad I asked,I had $4000 for the sound in the budget. Now I have to find more based on your experience.I think the same way you think "you need to get the best sound possible"
Now I have to budget for Good mixing and good sound design.
You think $10,000 would be sufficient for both?Or I should bump it up.
Thanks again
Good day.

Good day.

Like I said, it will depend on where you go. In our case, if we went with the guy we should have went with for mixing, he would have charged 9,000 just to mix the feature. I would double that for sound design. BUT, this is still not to say you couldn't find someone to do it for cheaper. Some post houses love working on indie stuff because it is so different than the commercials they normally do. In this case they will do it for a lot cheaper than normal just to get more diverse material on their reel and on their work plate. Hope this helps!

You've been most hepful thank you.
I know what I have to do now.
I guess knowledge is power after all.
Thanks a million.
Good day
