Hey all!

Picked up the t2i last week and just finished a quick edit of some fight choreography and flips. This is my first time using a DSLR (have been using DVX since film school) so it's interesting to get used to.

I really like this camera, but unfortunately was hit with the disappointment of not being able to zoom without lots of flickering as the lens trys to adjust exposure. I've been using the 'fix' that I read about in which you disconnect the lens by a couple mm and then you can zoom without it flickering. However, there is still a drawback as the exposure is noticeably different when you zoom (as seen in my test video). at the moment i dont have the money to buy a constant aperture lens so I'll just have to live with it. This camera has way more pros than cons anyway.

Let me know what you guys think! :)

Good wushu, good shooting. I've been messing around with trying to keep a constant lighting from the sun (shooting the same direction). It helps a little, but I'm in the same boat as far as waiting to save the cash for a better lens. Look into getting the few that are para-focal (I think that's the word I'm looking for) as well.

Thanks everyone for the comments :D

If anyone ends up finding an economic lens to fix the aperture problem let me know!

The best thing about the video is that you can actually see and follow the awesome moves. Unlike 90% of hollywood fight scenes I've seen. Good job.

Yeah, my 7D has the same problem with the kit lens. The only fix I see is using a better lens. That said, we often do zooms in post if we use the kit lens, this way, we can avoid that.

Great job by the way, really like the demo reel. We do a lot of the same sort of stuff. I am getting ready to put together a sword fighting sequence and your shots were an inspiration in that area!

Hmm I never thought about doing the zooms in post... maybe I'll try it out! I tend to do a lot of fast sudden zooms during fight sequences...do you think it'll still look organic if done in post?

Thanks again all for the comments. mcgriff I like your new york footage!

That was awesome! Makes me super excited about my recent T2i purchase... can't wait to go shoot with it. I figured I'd upgrade to the 7D if I ended up liking shooting on a DSLR... but this video makes me think I won't need to. :)

Dude, THAT WAS AWSOME!!!!! As far as a lens goes, don't zoom in post, get a constant apature zoom like the tamron 17-50 for around 300-350ish on ebay... AND KEEP SHOOTING THESE VIDEOS!!!-Adam

I was really thinking of getting a 7D as well! but ended up going for the t2i and save money for lenses later on. ive seen comparison videos and there really isn't much difference.

update: i applied the 1.08 firmware update and it did not get rid of the problem.... not sure why. anyone else try the update?

Yep. That's pretty much why I went with the T2i as well. I'm not a still photographer by profession, but a videographer. The images out of these cameras really seem to be nearly all about the glass. So, I can use that extra $800 for some really nice glass. :)
