t2i continuous recording?!?!?!

Just upgraded all my canon bodies, (firmware) - including the 7D and 2x t2i's. As strange as it may sound but one of my canon t2i now has unlimited recording (until card is full). I left it running at the ceremony rehearsal with a 16gig card and when I came back it was still recording at 31 minutes! I thought to myself "this is amazing!", and thought it was because of the new firmware BUT strange my 7D still has the limit, and so does the other t2i?!?!?! Maybe I upgraded incorrectly? Anyways I tested it on other cards (mostly 16gb) and it's amazing! Only problem is that it splits the file :/ For example, when I downloaded the video I recorded at the ceremony that was approx 31 minutes into my computer, it is split into 3 files on the card each file being not over 4GB... I also shot some city stuff, it records basically until the card is full but the files are split. Anyone else experiencing this?

with the canon avchd cams, you have to use the copy /b command in a dos prompt to stitch the .m2ts files back together and avoid dropped frames and audio samples at the splice points before pixela updated their software.

i'd like to know if you can do the same with the .mov files out of your 550d.

The T2i records either 1080P or 720P HD to 12 min clips (based on 4GB limit), and 30 minute clips in VGA (640 x 480) movie mode.

It's just doing what it's supposed to do. You still get 4 gig files.

you do not read what he says.
Continuous recording.
Normally T2i is recording up to 4gig (whatever recording time it could be) and STOPs
Possible nobody noticed yet this improvement while everybody avoiding to reach that limit ?

But 31 min in standard res is not filling the full card, so the post is unclear if he really filled the 16 gig card
or just recorded 31 min in a raw (and in HD , you can put more than 31 min into 16gig)
if it is in HD, 31 min in 4gig could be possible if the scene is very static (as are most weddings)
we need more information here.

well that's different behavior than the 550d I was using. the camera would STOP recording @ 4GB, not break the files. It would END the recording period, after which, you would have to press the record button again to recommence recording.

so my question remains - what happens when you splice these files back together?

the OP is saying that he hit record, walked away, came back 30 minutes later and the camera had recorded 3 separate clips. this is NOT normal.

sorry if I made it somewhat unclear, i was indeed recording 1080/24p - i've been shooting DSLR for some months and I could never record a clip longer than approx. 12 min...this was 31 min!! Also, i brought the 3 clips into premiere and it won't play them, it sees them along with the footage from the other cams, but when i try to import it shows "File format not supported"....using the right template (dslr 1080 24), however I did transcode with NeoScene - Vegas reads/plays them just fine, i stitch the 3 clips and I get myself perfect playback. No dropped frames either. Very very strange.
