T2i and Adobe CS4 choppy footage

Yay! Finally got a camera and some editing software!

Then I find out that CS4 format is not good for DSLR footage and needs to be reformatted. Looked around, a lot of the threads are old on this subject.

Is there a good cheap way to reformat my footage or is Cineform Neoscene stiil the best way to go. I'm on a budget, I do have a rockin' computer though, so I'm set there.

Any help would be appreciated by this noobie wanna be film maker! :)

If you're on a mac, the usual solution is prores. On Windows, you can go for DNxHD (which is free) or Cineform (which I think is not).
 
You may be having an issue that I was recently. Exported some footage from Premiere to play back in windows media player, and wmp couldn't handle the HD footage (which is strange, because it will play the raw files just fine). But then, I uploaded the same footage to youtube anyway and it played just fine. So, there may be a driver/software update issue with you whatever program you're using to play videos.

Samuel....I have a PC and I will check out DNxHD. Yeah Cineform costs money 89.00 to 119.00 from what I've seen. Thanks for the info.

Solomon...thank you, but mine must be a different issue, my footage hasn't even been put together yet, it's choppy in the preview window.

Ok, total noob time...so I dl'd DNxHD Avid Codec LE...but I can't find it on my computer...I've searched for it but it doesn't show up anywhere. However it shows up as a program on my computer that could be uninstalled. Any ideas?

You may want to set the monitor resolution to 1/2 (depending on your vid card) (the little button on the corner of the pre view monitor)

I use cineform and would recommend it, but it kinda depends on your wallet. CS4 doesn't work too well with the DSLR footy but cineform seems a little cheaper than buying CS6....
 
Samuel....thanks for the advice. I used the link and followed the directions to the letter....but, he uses Media Composer and I had to wing at that point. I did, however get the footage transcoded or reformatted(whichever is the correct term) to .mov, but I'm still having the same problem. I appreciate the response.

Chris...thanks for taking the time, I may try and figure out someway to scrape together some cash and get Cineform. Because, I'm spending more time pulling my hair out over this and not getting anything else done.
