What if you're on a desktop without express card? There are millions of people passing critical data over USB, myself included. I wouldn't say its inconsistent. I've never had a USB memory card transfer fail.

For those worried about data integrity there is always AAsync
http://www.aasync.com/
The free version of this software compares folders and verifies checksums etc etcc blah etc

Or do what I do and dump twice to two separate drives. 8gig dumps twice in about 15 mins
during which time I am shooting with another card or yelling at actors

Do you prefer doing it twice over RAID in case the data is written wrong on one of the transfers?

Seems like a simple USB software RAID would do the same job in half the time. I am just now swaying into the DSLR camp. I feel for that Norman guy. I have been reading his posts across the site and instead of a ton of replies I'm doing it here.

It will work. It will be different. There will be some things that suck compared to the way you used to do it. The images will (should say can) look better then anything your have ever shot. That is unless you own a Super 16 or better film camera or any Pro video camera above 20,000. The point is "$899" to start. Sling it over your shoulder and get an extra plate for your video tripod and ROCK IT!

The last 7D shoot I did we used my DVX locked down on tripod for audio and I basically left it recording the whole shoot. It was very freeing. It was the first time in a long time all my cameras were completely unhooked from audio. I also captured some real audio gems in between 7D takes because the entire DVX tape only had 5 cuts. Except for a couple minutes synching clapper points in edit it worked great.

At the current pace the newest body will be out in 2 or 3 months, the one after that will be expensive but shoot 2k. On and on.

It is a great time to be creating moving images!

BTW we used 5 8Gig SanDisk Class 6

Each to his own bro. I personally roll with a setup that is chosen for minimum weight. Macbook pro and lacie rugged drive. First dump goes to laptop, 2nd to the lacie rugged. Both fit in my Kata with DSLR, 6 lenses, zoom h4. Mic and preamp ride in my bulbs and filters bag. You can carry raids and all sorts of gear to a shoot if you want, not for me.

are you sure those will hold 120 minutes of footage? I talked to someone and he said he got 8 minutes on a 4gb extreme III SDHC card shooting in 1080 with a t2i. I was looking at a 16 gb class six. Here's a link, want to make sure the card isn't junk : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0015AOK1O/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2SMIOPIX6968Y&v=glance

I shoot on a class 4 SanDisk 8 gig and I get 29 min at 1080p24 on my T2i... Great card! Picked it up on B&H for $15. I need a second one. At SD I get 120 min.

Ok I see what your saying. The laptop is the first drive and lacie is backup. You could chain one extra lacie and preconfigure software RAID and have double backups. Your setup is very streamlined and make complete sense.

I bought one of those 16GB Class 6 Patriot cards and good results so far. They can be had for under $40 but I'll probably get the class 10 to be safe. I shoot weddings. No room for error.

LOL Yes ... I quickly became allergic to heavy objects !

Could how many times have you filled up the card with the t2i? Any dropped frames? Thats also the same card I've been testing with but I haven't had much spare time. I've filled up my card twice now with out any dropped frames.
Also, have you got a B&H link?
Thanks !

Hi Chris, how many times have you filled up the card? Thanks for keeping us posted on the Patriot cards.

I've shot with the Transcend 16gb Class 6 with my EX1 and never had any problems. Probably pick up another one of those for my T2i. Currently shooting with a Kingston 4gb Class 4 that I had lying around. Surprisingly it's handling the 1080 footage with no issues.

Nice find! I'm curious how the Class 10 card is going to perform. Does the camera actually support it?

Has anyone tried an SDXC card yet?

That same card $46.99, also I am using this since my GH1 and now T2i so far no problems at all. Only bummer is that the T2i uses up more space......

There are no SDXC cards widely available on the market yet. The first couple that have been announced have price tags around $350.

SDXC cards are pretty worthless for video, IMO. They're super capacious, but that's not necessarily a benefit, because (as the saying goes) you shouldn't put all of your eggs in one basket. They're super fast, but Class 6 cards are already fast enough. Extensive testing of memory cards here has proven that, as long as there are no buffering issues, faster cards don't improve video performance whatsoever.

I also bought two Patriot 16GB Class 10 cards off of eBay for $46/ea after shipping (bing). I just got the T2i in about 30 minutes ago, and I won't get to test it extensively for a few days, but the cards didn't seem to want to pop out of the slot when I tried to eject. They record fine, and the camera recognizes them, so no problems there. But I have to press it in, and then use my fingernail to drag out the card from the slot. Is anyone else having this problem?

Checked the slot with another brand of SD Card, it's not the camera it's the Patriot 16GB Class 10 cards. Both of them do it, so be aware when buying that they're a little bit bigger perhaps and don't come out as smoothly.
