Switch between P2 & FS100

I will be shooting a feature with HVX and all we have is FS100.
I want to shoot 1080/24pa.
Does FS100 handle that or should I get P2 cards?

Thanks

i shot a whole documentary (outside, run & gun, with it attached to my belt) with a FS100 and it worked great, got all the shots, and I would not hesitate to use it again. But if P2 has the capacity, I would just use those since it's better not to have anythng tethered to the camera, better not to use a cable when i don't have to and better not to have an additional point of failure. but it does work, it works well enough.

Hi all,

To each his own, but the cards are the easiest, lightest weight solution for me. No extra batteries to lug around as the open-minded Barry suggested, and quieter recording, too. The down side is pretty manageable with downloading content via laptop - I have a PC that I do that with. You can buy a cheap PC or do it with a Mac.

It really hasn't posed a problem so far.

What really is bad about the FS, is the connection. The CinePorter was a much more clever idea, unfortunatly it never made it to the market...

Other than the bad FireWire connection on the HVX (or more precisely: stupid choise of flimsy 4 pin FW-port in the wrong place), there's nothing really wrong with the FireStore.

Treat it as a disk, and it will serve you well.

That said: I'd take 2X64 gb cards any day, but I think I'll rather just get something else (with even shorter recording times pr CF card...)

Anyone know where I can get the Anton Bauer cradle for the Fs-100 that has a power cord coming out of it to tap the Panna 12v supply ?

It's part number:
ab-WKHD100

Thanks

LawrenceCingram,
I just came accross this post. and I hear everyone when they say the P2 cards are by far better solutions for recording. (other than size) and I agree with them. But I like your self am not currently working on projects with a large budget. So one less guy I have to have on set is a HUGE savings for me. Not to mention the lack of human error.
I spoke to a few people that were directing, or DPing a shoot and had a dedicated person offloading P2 cards to a laptop. Some had a transfer error from P2 to Laptop, and some recorder the same P2 card twice. So even though you can have a very diligent person checking things Human Error is still a possibility.
This is why I love my FS-100.

CBLN, Thanks for the plug. "http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.p...0&postcount=32"

Also, I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but for those with the FS-100 already, I'm providing a mod that will let you swap out Hard Drives. My goal is for people to get smaller Hard Drives and think of them as tape. You go to a 4hr shoot. pop in a 100gig HDD and at the end of the day go home, dump the footage to your editing Computer. and store the Hard Drive in your vault. No archiving footage, no dumping to computer and back to another hard drive. and you always have a back up. The Hard Drives I will sell will be reasonably priced.
Just thought you guys should know.

LawrenceCingramalmost forgot. with a tekkeon Battery MP3400 you can power your FS-100 for about 5.5hrs. (the last hour is the fs-100 battery kicking in. which means, you have 1hr to swap out tekkeon batteries for continous work. With 2 tekkeon you would get about 10hrs.) and with the 250gig drive mod, you get 11hrs 22mins of recording time in 720pn (with firmware v.4 of course) and about 4.5hrs of 1080 recording

Thnaks, I'll need that solution for a show I am shooting next week end.

Tomorrow I have a small show, no big deal, so I thoguht I use the new fs 100 I just got, HOWEVER, question, I like to shoot 24p or 24pa, the latter I like better. But when I did a test shot using the fs 200 it yields not easy to work with clip numbers, but instead it yields those nutty P2 useless file names. Also, I can't get avid to strip the fs 100 pulldown cadance from the test video !

I used a FS 100 setting of DVcpro50 and had the spx800 set at 24p and 24pa for some test shots but avid sees them as 30i niot 24pa or 24p and thus refuses to let me put the test video on a 23.97 avid timeline.

I could try and shoot with fs 100 settimgs of DV at say QT but won't I loose the quality ?

Thanks,

Patrick

HI, I have a question for you all, but I just got the firestore fs-100 and keeping having the issue where if I jostle the 6-pin end of the FW cable attached to the firestore it drops out. I then have to unplug it and wait like 5 seconds for it to detect again. I once had to do this like 5 times before the camera would detect the drive.

Is this just an issue with a bad FW 6-pin port on the firestore or what? I'm thinking of taping that end so it's snug on the firestore and won't move.

I'm going to be filming a wedding and moving around a lot and don't want to miss footage because of this...and don't want to go the P2 route because it doesn't have the capacity I need for the money I can afford right now...but if this is an inherent issue with the firestore I just might go ahead and buy the P2 cards (thank goodness for the cheaper e-series 64gig cards)

I just find it odd that I'm having more of an issue with the 6-pin side than the 4-pin. Is this something I just need to return and exchange? I've tried using 3 different FW cables and I've even jiggled the Computer I/O FW port while transferring footage to my computer and that seemed to work fine. I'm guessing the DV I/O side is just more sensitive maybe? HELP!

Anyone?
