This one had me chuckling. The opening sequence with the comic book art was very well done. I like conversation about being the worst roommate ever. "That's hurtful" hahaha! good stuff

Yeah, I really liked that opening sequence and when the hero kept changing his accent. The concept was very original also. The end fade to back to the drawings was a nice round off to the film.
Good job.

Not a bad concept.

I think, for this piece, the cursing might've been a bit much.

Great go at the fight scene (aside from the toy... err that was just off). Must've been incredibly difficult to pull that off.

Great job!

The guy under the bed cracks me up everytime! :)

"...umm.. Mort Mayer. He's Asian"

I find myself quoting lines from this movie throughout my day. "....I'm Dr. Devious. And I know you are El Capitano EJustisssss"

This was funny. Dr. Devious looks like Billy Bob Thorton.

Bingo!! that's what I told Alex! (which.. Alex IS Dr. Devious :) )

Maybe its the grey side hair and cocky attitude?

I thought alex did a great job jumping in as an actor and he is photogenic. . He looks like Reed from the Fantastic 4 comics.

I liked the intro. It was interesting and well-done. I was also amused by the shot of the guy peeking out from under the bed.

The swearing was a little much, and the whole thing (cursing, ethnic references, gay jokes) came off as borderline offensive. Now, I can understand the humor in referencing these things and I'm not the PC police, but it didn't seem appropriate for this movie - wasn' t really well-placed. I think the references to the superhero/capitano as being gay would have worked IF he wasn't living with the bad guy (and if they didn't both know it to be so) - e.g. unsuspecting guy thinks his roommate is gay, but really he's a superhero. Then the jokes would have been appropriate, but here they felt a little off. Just my 2 cents.

Good work

I'm gonna echo Conrad. Language was unfitting...not sure, maybe delivery would have sold it better. I really liked the titles, but if you could have toned down the blaring purple dildo, I wouldn't have guessed what was coming.

The spanish accent was actually good...pretty funny. Nice job guys!!!

Ooh. Alex, you really toned down that blast on the last scene. :) Audio levels on the music (uumm. ya... :) ) could have been bumped up a wee bit, but I liked the end result!

Cheers to ya!

There seems to be a few people who thought the cursing was too mush. I am just wondering if it is that you don't like cursing in general or if you thought it didn't work in the context of the movie (i.e. didn't fit the characters).

I thought the opening sequence worked well too. It was in no small part due to the great art by my writer and the music by Justin (Edgen).

And I guess looking like Billy Bob Thornton isn't too bad. He did nab Angelina Jolie.

I actually wasn't supposed to star in this movie. My Reed Richards/BB Thornton self was supposed to be behind the camera! But at 12:30 am on the Saturday of the SECOND weekend of shooting, the actor playing Dr. Devious calls me from the hospital and says he won't be able to make it. So the previous weekend's footage, which was shot at a beatiful apartment with a nice view of New York City was unusable and the entire shoot had to be condensed from four days to two, with me in front of the camera instead of behind it.

This film was produced through a collaboration of several NYC DVXusers (Hybridcreations, Desperatecomfort, FlintMI, Aram Bauman) and one from LA (Edgen). This board is a great place to meet helpful, knowledgeable people.

I liked it a lot. The cursing didn't offend me at all and everyone can take the PC and shove it out the window for this one because if it was all PC, then there'd be no story. That's what made this unique to me. A very down to earth roomie conflict with superhero undertones.

What really bugged me was that when the fists were flying at the end and they were to "connect" with body tissue, there were no sound effects. I would really like to have heard some swooshes and THWACK / THWUNKS.

I actually liked the cursing, especially when the hero is watching tv and says "bitches" Its perfect as a satire to whole superhero culture, where they can do no wrong. Maybe if that was the only scene it would have highlighted it more. What made it work was that it was so casual. Whereas billy bob's was had some anger behind it, which is good for the character, but doesn't lend itself for a satire of it.

Also I really liked the humor throughout (half naked men on magazines and the spanish accent) oh man that all really worked.

If I had to make some critical comments, on the compressed version we all say the first scene was a bit dark and for me the guy under bed, I didn't notice the face until a second viewing. It could be the compression but it is kinda dark, at least for me.

But what I love is how stupid the hero is for not realizing that his roommate is his arch enemy. That is friggen hilarious.

Congratulations, Alex! I think you did a great job for your first outing as writer/director/producer. You showed great resourcefulness all the way through, and I really think you were meant to play Dr. Devious... ;)

ADDENDUM: Forgot to mention that I LOVE your opening credits. I think they are my favorites so far...

Yeah that bitches line was great. The super hero gloating to himself was a nice touch.
I saw it as he was so into himself that he never saw that his room mate was the enemy even though their were people stuffed under his bed. I originally thought that was a ninja under there from the way their head shot up. It looked like he was just chillin under there.

I'm glad that the cursing didn't offend you. And I listened to it the movie a few more times without the picture and I still don't think the cursing was out of place or forced. It fit within the context of the characters. They are real people who happen to have powers. They are not idealized versions of a hero and villain. And most real people curse.

I agree about the sound effects. This is an area I will definitely look at fixing up. Althought the score does an excellent job of tracking the fight in terms of impact, the sound effects would definitely add to the scene.

Thanks,
Alex
