Superman Returns

Shogun Assassin
wow where to start...
maybe spoilers?

The guy could play christopher Reeves! he did good.
First 2 acts are ok but the last act is pointless and dull.
Superman saves and catches things but never does any superheroing action. Blah.
script is dull and boring.
graphics are top notch good, cept for one greenscreen shot but other than that good fx.
The Lex Luther plot just ranked.
Nothing new, more of the same story, no complexities.
The how the plot nowhere near the series is funny.
also the absurb moments just make you laugh.

Super Fx. Super Dull. Superman....

I was more excited seeing the spiderman teaser again!

Okay, I just got back from the 10:00 screening of Superman Returns. I absolutley loved the movie. It was shot beautifully, edited beautifully, the score was phenomenal. It was a bit long though. They could have shaved off 20-30 minutes of it and it would've still been great. Acting was pretty good. There were times that I felt Routh wasn't doing as good as he could, and there were times that Chris Reeve flashed in my mind. There were a few lines that he sounded almost EXACTLY like Reeve. Kate Bosworth was alright... still don't like that casting call. James Marsden, Frank Langella, and the kid who played Jimmy Olsen were rather good. Kevin Spacey was a great Lex Luthor, and Parker Posey's character was pretty good. I would definitely recommend seeing the movie. The time part was my biggest complaint, but I can sorta overlook it. I can't say enough about the score. It was just amazing. I got chills at points.

GO SEE IT!

spidey you beat me to the post. i'll just let my thread die out. didn't mean to make a seperate topic.

Yes it was definitely shot very well (Panavision cameras and lenses), and the CG and fx were awesome!!!! I didn't care for Kate Bosworth, I thought see did a pretty good job, but just wasn't Margot Kidder (she was missing something). Kevin spacey as lex luthor, wow what a great job!!! Final, Brandon Routh was AWESOME, I couldn't believe they found that great of a Clark Kent/Superman, it might as well been Christopher Reeves son. It's too bad he wasn't alive to see it though. :(

I give a it 10+

Now someone said something about a extended 3min Spider-man trailer, I got there a little late, did I miss this?

cool I saw your pop up lol.

wow you really liked it i mean i watched once and thats all i needed nothing for me really to go back to or a scene i was blown away by. I mean superman he didnt even struggle except one part and I found that to be a big duh moment.

I liked the movie. The action was killer and there were a lot of nice touches. I agree with ravinesedge, Lois didn't do it for me. Spacey was great tho.

How come Paul Dini hasn't written a live-action feature?

MAYBE SPOILERS***

i loved the scene where the earthquake hits Metropolis and Superman flies around saving people. i liked the part where he flew backwards and used the laser beams to incinerate rubble before it could hurt people and the shot of him flying through the Daily Planet and coming out the other side just in time to catch the big Daily Planet ball... that was great.

END SPOILER

solid film all around

I saw Superman last night and was unimpressed. I thought It was dull at best. What's the deal with these 200-300 million movies recently? It's like before the movie starts they ask you to turn off your cell phone and brain. I've seen thing's on this forum that are twice as stimulating then some of the crap that's been coming out.

I didn't really care for the cinematography either.

I heard an interesting theory about how film is like a cracker, I think it was by a pixar executive. They can make a cracker to please some of the people, but then they may lose a lot of other people who dont like the taste. So they end up making a watered down cracker that can be passable to the majority of people--and as budgets rise, this becomes the norm. Superman Returns isnt as risky as Superman was in 1978-then again, it was the Suskinds who really brought it to the screen-these days its the studio driving the comics production, they just shop around for a writer-director.
BTW-I thought computer graphics was supposed to make movies cheaper? Isnt that where all the money is going these days? I dont see the $300 million up there on the screen. The software used is doable on home computers for pete's sake.

action? where?

C'mon. Rescuing the airplane after the shuttle accident was great. And even tho the bank robbery was extraneous to the plot, it was freaking cool seeing Supes walk down a gattling gun.

thats not action. I knew he was gonna save the plane, becuase superman doesnt have a problem with catching stuff. plus that was very far fetch of the shuttle and her not losing conciousness and the shuttle would have torn that place apart. I mean if any that way the height of action but he had no challenges. spiderman stopping a subway from speeding off not thats a challenge becuase spiderman tries even if he loses. Superman so powerful nothing is a challenge. If you ask me, they should have left him in space.

I might be the only person that didn't mind bosworth as lois. I liked the movie. However I do agree that its hard to watch a movie when the super hero is superman and nothing can happen to him. But they really kicked his ass in a couple of parts.

I quivered when I heard brandos voice overs, so that was a nice touch.

SPOILERS...

also the superman has a kid kinda suprised me. Not sure what I think about that.

I just saw the movie at IMAX 3D, I recommend it to anyone on the site to see the movie in 3D, pretty spectacular.

I didn't like how it ended, I mean, it kept going and going. The audience knows the kid is his, they didn't have to beat us over the head with it. I'm surprised they didn't have a giant red arrow pointing to the kid saying "This is his son"...

Most of the story elements could have been left for the sequel, we all know a sequel is coming, they didn't have to over do it. BUT, this is the first one, ACT One is now complete, I can't wait for the Second and Third Act.

Brandon did a good job, still, Christopher Reeve is brilliant. This movie didn't show how clumsy he is and how awkward and nervous her feels like Reeve does in the first one. I'm sure they'll work out all the kinks for the second one,
Thanks,

They still havent got the personality of superman right. in the comics he very arrogant. In fact the cartoons got him right. Last week they had an episode where he knocked and orphange down think luther built it so it had to up to no good. With out doing rescearch he nows it down leveling a city and was wrong in the process, I laughed so hard. Another was when people started to like Shazamm instead superman and he got jelious. i think the movie should have had more than "hey look what we can do with super man now!" type features and worked on the script.

Spidey you are dead on.

One of the things I liked about Superman story arcs i read a year ago, Azzarello and Lee's For Tomorrow for example, is that they used that arrogance to show Superman's fallability.

He's no longer vulnerable to kryptonite but his ego can be his undoing.

well beyond the actual script/story which is gonna get the sh*t kicked out of it (i like the movie, it did what it was supposed to do) i thought that the production designer rocked and Newton Thomas Sigel did a totally fantastic job on this, spot on, great camera, awesome lighting and composition all the way through

saw superman returns today.. i wouldn't say awesome but good and worth watching. Yeah not much action more of a story. i don't think i'll see it again. i'll just wait for it to be out on dvd.

Just got back from seeing it at an IMAX 3D, and loved the movie. Certainly not as exciting as some of the recent comic movies (Batman Begins, Spider Man 2), but I really enjoyed the story, as well as the film's tone. It sort of has a naive sensibility to it, which I appreciated.

Note on the IMAX 3D-
I actually would recommend seeing it in a regular theater first, as the 3D just took me out of the film. It is worth seeing 3D, but I also found it distracting.

I'll take a protector and savior figure over an arrogant one anyday, if those are my choices. I love the strong religious overtones and iconography.

That said, however, I think that allowing pride to rise up in Superman and eventually result in a fall would be a wonderful place to take the character.

Loved it... real emotions here.... Looked good too... won't see in theatres again, but if you haven't, you should.
