Successor to HVX200A/HPX170?

Hey everyone,

I apologize in advance if this topic has been beaten to death; I've been away from these forums for a while. I currently have an HVX200. I still love what I can do with it, but I've gotten to the point where I'm considering upgrading to the HPX170. So I have two questions for anyone who might have the answers:

(1) Has there been any news or rumors regarding the successor to the HPX170? I wouldn't want to get one only to have the "new" version come out soon after. If there's any talk of a new cam from Panny, I'd probably wait.

(2) For those of you that have made the switch from HVX200 to the 200A or 170, is there anything you would consider a drawback? I know that most people have treated it as a no-brainer, but I was just wondering if anyone experienced any unforeseen dissapointments with the newer models.

Thanks so much everyone.

There is a Panasonic press event this Sunday at 1pm (PDT) at NAB; I'd expect anything new to be announced there.

I'll be reporting live here on DVXuser from that event.

Great! Thanks so much for the input guys. I'll keep up with what's going on at NAB.

If there's not some sort of announcement made at NAB, is it probably safe to say that they won't be doing anything major with the model for at least a year?

Well, I don't know that that's safe to say... I mean, the HPX300 was introduced in February, months before NAB. But, in general, the major announcements do appear to happen around the NAB timeframe...

I'll post it here to avoid the million af100 threads... Basically cause I love the hvxccdgooodness and I fear the global days are over for quite awhile(at this lower price level).

What if there were a 4CCD cam implementing the pioneering 'yellow pixel'? I know no one will have the tvs for 10 years, but it is a new buzz, this whole yellow pixel thing. I'm surprised I didnt hear anything more about it from nab reports but there has been so much going on with 3d and the 4/3rds, many probably think its just a gimmick which it very well could be. I don't know I'm kind of desperately reaching for some glimmer of hope of global shutter. If the Sony prototype gets one s35 ccd, that'd be an interesting story to follow.

mitsubishi had i believe 6 pixel tv's before; cyan and magenta as well as yellow red blue and green.

i dont see 4 px tv's suddenly sweeping away 3 px; its mostly marketing anyways.

4th pixel is a sales gimmick.

All video standard are RGB based ... there is no real data to drive the yellow pixels.

You have to admit though it would make for much nicer flesh tones. hypothetically speaking.
