stunning footage

So I was searching through Vimeo and ran across this guy, Michael Fletcher - I'm sure many of you have seen his work, but I was simply amazed at what he is doing with his 5D MKII. Check it out..

My favorite shot in here was of the helicopter in slow motion.. WOW, very cool.

Seriously, if I had any doubts about this camera as a great tool, they all just disappeared.

And looking at this versus my HPX500, it's so so clean..

Nah, his footage is just so-so.

:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Seriously, don't buy the 5D. The image quality is too good! I'm on a shoot right now and my 5D is kicking my HMC150's arse. I'm a bit freaked out because I don't know how I'm going to cut the two together in post!?

:cheesy: Just crappy up the 5D footage by about 4076%. Add lots of noise and put about a 30% blur on it. reduce the color and contrast by 75% and you should be golden.

Seriously, this camera rules!

Now I want to work on getting a helicopter license even more than normal. Great stuff. These new cameras are really helping push the video artist type of imagery forward.

so some of the heli footage looks slow mo / but it s not .only the high shutter rate matching the blade rotation to almost look like it is spinning slow. .cool effect at reg speed. wonder what shutter speed that was?

That makes sense. Never thought about it that way. I think it's a very cool effect. Regardless, cool video overall.

Glad you posted this Kit. Someone pointed me to his shots not long ago as well. Helps with all the beautiful landscapes in Northern Australia. Come visit :P

Anyway, adding one of these units to my inventory list in the near future, probably wait for development in the next few months to settle. August can pick one up from Japan.

Does that mean I have a place to stay?
Definitely always wanted to visit.
And no problem, just trying to contribute.

Not slow motion !

The shutter speed is just catching the blade rotation.

Yeah, someone else led me to that which made me go "oh yeah, this is a DSLR so you can change the shutter speed at the drop of a hat". Either way, very cool (and quick) effect.

Sorry, I meant Reverie by Vincent Laforet: Link.

WOWOWOWOWOW, yeah, Matt, Oh yeah, that's the kind of stuff I am talking about right there. SOLD SOLD SOLD. Definitely. This is freakin revolutionary!

So it has a little rolling shutter and jello effect. Big deal, controllable. The image is the cleanest and sharpest I have ever seen from any camera in my life. And for $2600? I'm all over this. For sure! The 30p on this camera still looks VERY film like.

My reaction too Kit.

I also have been experimenting with the 30p to 24p conversion with shake based on your blog post and have been very impressed with the results.

But you can also see the shortcomings: Almost all the takes that show rippled water have a lot of moiré. (Arrrgghhh I got so traineed to see those artefacts...)
