Macbook or Macbook Pro?

I am working with P2 this weekend. Can I use a Macbook to transfer the P2 files to the Mac or do I need a Macbook Pro? Also, do I need Final Cut Pro installed on the computer for it to work?

Thanks!

you can use either to download the contents of the p2 card via the cameras firewire connection. a powerbook g4 would be your best bet to use as the p2 cards can be inserted into the pcmcia slot.(macbook pro has new super duper express card slot, adapater is available from duel systems) and in order to view your footage you will need fcp to convert your mxf files into quicktime.

thats not entirely true. you dont need FCP, but you do need something like p2log or p2log pro from imagine products - $149 and $199 respectively.

i think you should have one of these even if you do have FCP. just nice to have a small nimble app to simply view P2 content.

i use my old 17", 1.0 ghz mac powerbook g4 in the field for p2 injest and basic edit and it works PERFECTLY! now i wouldnt go doing a bunch of effects or anything - im sure that would be painfully slow. but for injest and basic edit that old machine works wonderfully.

the only drag with the firewire transfer method is its a good deal slower than a pcmcia slot
