FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

Thank Michael! We are talking with some options now on our next step. Also, Stricken is sent to 6 other film festivals so we will see how that goes. -Matt

Are the potential distributors funding the submissions? If a distributor wants your film, usually THEY will do their part in creating that BUZZ :)

We are working with Sales agents and the like right now. One potential distributor has yet to watch the film, so we are creating our own buzz to get the notice of some distributors. So, unfortunately, no one is coming to the rescue on festival fees, but the buzz is working. We will have a review coming out in the 28days later horror blog and the horrorsociety blog soon. Best, Matt

The interview Action on Film did about me is up. Check it out. I am honored by what they said in the description.

I am really excited about how well STRICKEN was received by Michael Allen of 28 Days later Analysis. What a wonderful review.

It is nice to have him so in tune with what we tried to do with story, acting, lighting and special effects, etc.

My favorite comment is that STRICKEN is, "...A time well spent."

Wow, sounds like Stricken is becoming a big deal. You can also just send review copies to all the horror blogs. They love getting free stuff.

Somehow this pops up under the "martial arts" search topic. Is there anyway possible you could temporarily market this EXCELLENT film to us fellow DXuser's first? Since we are the ones who followed, encouraged, supported you all the way? Just an idea. Thanks,

We will be releasing through a distributor so we will not control that aspect of a target release but I will for sure let you know when it becomes available!:cheesy:

We were at the AIFF in LA this weekend and had a blast. We went home with no awards but were honored at our horror film receiving three nominations: Best Supporting Actor, Best Use of Music, and Best New Filmmaker. We made crazy good connections though, and I was so glad we went down for another reason.

The reason we were at the festival became clear Saturday morning. A woman began to choke on a mint as my dad and I were standing by her. My dad gave her the Heimlich maneuver and saved her life. She was a wonderful lady and I am glad she is still with us. We made relationships and connections that will help Stricken and our next projects, especially "Magic".

Yep, I am entered into it. I send out the DVD tomorrow. Who knows, maybe Stricken will win? That would be pretty darn cool. Thanks -Matt

Here are some pics from the American International Film Festival. We were pleased and honored to be invited to the fest. When we got there we noticed that we were one of the only horror films that was there. The San Gabriel Hilton was a five star, high class well run establishment. It will be a venue DVXusers will want to submit films to in the future.

The fest was kind of an 'East meets West' fest. There was a large emphasis on Chinese films and on building working relationships with the growing Chinese film industry. There was also a huge input by 3D film makers to increase 3d productions. We were favorably impressed with the business conference involving 3d and will be shooting our next two features in 3D. We will also be getting help with the scripts from Chinese writers to tweak the films to service both western AND Chinese/asian audiences.

Here is Matt Sconce Director of STRICKEN and poster in front of the AIFF banner.

Matt and I with the (L to R) Executive producer, Director, and Star of Angel Camouflaged, a feature that is about to become distributed. We saw this film and it is outstanding.

Matt talks weapons with Weapons Master Anthony De Longis (Star Trek, Highlander, Indiana Jones, Etc.). Anthony will be acting in a feature film that is on the drawing boards that Matt will produce and DP.

Matt and Anthony laugh about an inside joke regarding a butterknife... Being both weapons and martial arts guys, they really hit it off.

Of course, I had it the best. Here I am with actor Robert Factor (Best Supporting Actor for 2010 AIFF, on right) and the Miss Taiwan pageant girls. It is amazing how many women are attracted by an ugly old Scottish guy in a formal kilt. Matt laughingly called it, "Kilt Gravity".

We had such a great time.

I am now on the poster for THE PARK, our next feature, and today we finished the final rewrite for MAGIC, finishing the script.

After much research and thought we are about to sign contracts with Producer's Representatives FilmMarketingServices for them to get Distribution for Stricken on the domestic and foreign markets. Stricken will be marketed at the AFM and all consecutive film markets as well as be shopped between markets for the best deals. We are excited to see what happens!

Congrats and good luck! Does the sales cycle basically last from now til next year's Cannes?

The last quarter is ending now and the new one beginning. Peter Greene (Executive producer of Cinderella Story) and Jon Gursha make up the Producer's Rep company. They are quite excited on the prospects of selling Stricken.

Something that I have learned in this selling process is I would much rather have someone who has all the connections like a producer's reps or sales agent that have legal departments built in, handle the sales of films if I do films the same way in the future, which I am not.

The new way for Indies to do film now is different than the old make a movie and sell it days. Now, the best bet, is to have a killer script, set up financing, attach actors, then approach a distribution company and ask what changes they would like in orer for them to greenlight the film. You make the changes, then it is greenlit by the company gauranteeing (unless you jack up the movie) that you have distribution when you are done.

That is our approach on the next two films and, in this hard to sell market, it is the safest bet for distribution. The other option is to shoot 3D (Which we are doing as well) as indie films that are 3D are more marketable, especially in foreign countries like China than Indie 2D movies.

Lots we are learning!

UPDATE: We have heard from a theatrical distributor interested in Stricken. They have already watched the film and love it. We should hear more next week.
