FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

Wow, me likey SPINCAM.
I'm going to echo the previous thoughts here, and say that if your spincam doesn't get picked up by the bigger guys, you could easily do pretty well manufacturing and selling them yourselves. I'd buy one after I saved up enough dough.

Also, Gary, you appear to be quite the badass. I wouldn't want to be the guy who accidentally tries to mug you.

I am halfway done with Reel 2 of Stricken and am moving quickly. Then onto Reel 3 and credits and DONE.

I spoke to Steve Tibbo today (Our Sound Mixer) He does the production sound for Modern Family, Some Office Episodes and American Pie as well as many other things. He is a great guy and I am very excited to work with him. I have almost all the actors nailed down for ADR and once it is out of the way, there is nothing holding us back from completion. Soon...soon...my first feature will be ready to shop. I am STOKED! :2vrolijk_08:

We have the interest of about 8 distributors who contacted me about rights and screeners. I have not even put out lines or feelers yet myself. I will do so when I have a trailer and screener ready but it looks like we will have a lot of options. We have had interest from domestic, international, television distributors as well as some great sales agents. I believe these interested parties found us through the IMDB and our teaser trailer so I am very grateful I put it out there when I did. I am going to hold back names, but there are some exciting ones.

Sounds great, make sure you do your research and good luck.

keep us up to date with the distribution process, i'm interested in that. also let us know how the ADR goes. I have done a lot of ADR with solid results but it can be hard!

Actually, that was Chuck Norris' little brother Jack, not me. I'm just a friendly guy. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

If the big guys don't pick up the Spincam, I will find a way to make it as inexpensively as possible so many can use it.

ADR next week! :2vrolijk_08:

In front of me (on 'Terminator II') is the complete REEL 2 uncompressed version rendering out! We will add some small details to this and re-render it for the final reel 2 render. Then on to reel 3 of 4...

Whoooo Hoooo!

Matt (the slacker) is actually going out to dinner with his beautiful wife Heather and their sweet daughter Makenzie tonight.

He should be here. What's he thinking.

I am watching Gladys (Louise Cleveland) in the scene where she is having the talk with Sarah Black (Stephanie French) in the freaky abandoned operating room. I spent 4 hours doing the art direction of that room just for this scene. Seems like a million years ago...

We are so close to the finish line.

UPDATE: Heard the Sound Design for the final Reel today and loved it. After a few tweaks it should be perfect. I am looking forward to hearing the score with it. Good times, good times.

On another note, Our Dialogue Editor, Brad Semenoff, has added some pretty big movies to his IMDB credits. He has now done Foley for Iron man 2, Toy Story 3 and The Last Airbender.

True Dat Blaine! So I am getting stoked about our team...

Brad Semenoff is landing hardcore Foley goodness (Iron man2, Toy Story 3, The Last Airbender, How to Train Your Dragon)

Kunal Rajan our head sound designer just won Best Sound Design in a Web Series at the Streamy Awards

Craig Polding
One of the lead sound editors working with Kunal has done a lot of feature films.

David Fine has been on Trauma and going to be in three features coming up quickly

Stephen Tibbo (Our Sound Mixer and ADR recorder) has been the Production sound mixer for Modern Family, The Office, Life, The O.C. , Madmen, Ghost Whisperer, The Unit and the Sound mixer for tons and tons of Feature Films.

I feel like we are in good hands and the best part of this all is that they are such incredibly good people. I can trust them and that is a nice feeling.

Getting ready for ADR this weekend. It is going to be great. I just watched some of reel 3.1 (reel 4) with all of the sound design in with the action and I must say, even not mixed yet, it was superb. Great job guys! :love4:

UPDATE: Well, we leave for LA in 1 hour. I have not slept as I have been frantically rendering last minute versions of the QT movies for use with the ADR session in LA with Steve Tibbo. The renders should finish in time for me to leave. All day long has been spent organizing the 215 page ADR cue sheets made by Brad Semenoff and putting them into folders for the talent, mixer and myself, and rendering final files for the session. I am excited to be at this stage as this is a huge step in the finale of the post production process. It appears our end of May target date for completion will be met. It is getting exciting in Stricken land. -Matt

We left for LA at midnight to pick up AD Troy Ruff at 1am. Matt packed hard drives, two complete ADR schedules with all lines needed. He spent a lot of time getting that organized after Brad sent it to him because he printed them and hole punched several copies and got them ready. The ADR cue sheets rocked! We took scripts, our microphone used for boom, water, food, and sleeping gear for the overnighter at Stephanie French's apartment. Of course I took my bagpipes... You never know...

Here Matt and I set out in his truck. 2 hours of sleep...

Notice Matt's DVXuser shirt? Yah. We got Troy and three tired guys set off back on the road. Troy got to sleep. Lucky guy...

We arrived and got out the redundent hard drives with STRICKEN on them. Time for ADR !!!

We met Steve Tibbo sound guy extraordinaire! What a master at his art... Really!
4551792004_97b947fdb1.jpg
His studio was very well decked out and I see now why he does sound for shows like the Office... WOW!

We got down to business. Heidi Harian and Carie Wood came by and did lines for the diner scene and the graveyard scene. When we originally shot the diner, it was actually functioning and the freezer compressor came on ruining the audio in a number of visually great shots, so ADR was needed. In a no budget film you take what you can get. Here Heidi works on a line's sync. You can see Matt directing and Steve in the reflection in the glass. Heidi is a real pro.

Another shot where the big speakers were being listened to for a final check of the ADR'd line. Steve called them "The Bigs". "Let's hear it on 'the Bigs.'"

More coming...

It was good to see Carie, Brett and Ryan. Brett lives 1/2 mile away from Steve's office. Ryan had to yell a lot as Sarah Black's father and never complained.
Carie:

Brett is SAG and is a really good actor with a nice look.

And Ryan who is a tiny 6'8" guy. Ryan just moved to Hollywood to pursue acting. What a nice guy. It is rare to see 6'4" Matt look short...

Gorgeous Louise Cleveland (Gladys) came by and did ADR for some Whispering Pines retirement home scenes. Those scenes are very creepy and Louise's character is interesting and creepy too.

Our cool sign... Hehehe...

Our female lead Stephanie French as seen through the glass into the ADR mike room. She is such a nice person.

Directors... Get Stephanie French for your film! (She is going to be a huge star.) She sang a song Matt wrote for the graveyard funeral scene and her voice is like an angel's. When she was done nailing the ADR on the whole song in the first take, Steve Tibbo turned around in his chair to me and just dropped his jaw in awe. I told him, "I know... She is the complete package: Acts, sings, dances and is a hard working wonderful person too. We will say with pride we had her in this film and worked with her once." He agreed.

After we did around 1/3 of Stephanie French's ADR we all went out to Hollywood and had food together. Here is Christina, Troy, Stephanie and Matt in Hollywood going to a restaurant.

Stephanie French says, "...Food here is great!"

Dude, this looks awesome

Thanks Moldrs, honored to be your first post!

Here is the amazing Steve Tibbo starting the second day of ADR.
4551371389_219e78dbd4_b.jpg

Not only is he very talented, but he is a heck of a nice guy. He is currently doing all the production sound and mixing for the TV show "Modern Family".

Doug Scarbrough, who played "Pastor" in the cemetary scene ADR's his lines. What a voice! Low and powerful.
4552935256_645e97df85_b.jpg

Here Matt gives direction to Doug's ADR performance. See Kenn Arola on the monitor? He will do ADR next Tuesday.
4552298421_fcb12744aa_b.jpg

Matt was in with the actors and did a lot of direction. Steve Tibbo was professional and patient, allowing Matt to make sure he liked each and every performance. Some of the ADR performances were actually improvements on the original performances. We will never settle for anything less than excellence in this film.
4552938544_fbe8757071_b.jpg

Mike Tweedy (Dr. Allen) dropped by and ADR'd his lines from the Whispering Pines scenes. Interesting note: One of his scenes was shot in the emergency room where actor James Dean actually died. Creepy...

Director Matt, actor Doug and AD Troy Ruff listen back on the ADR on "The Bigs." This shows the functional layout of the studio.
4552301497_d980644379_b.jpg

We picked up our male lead David Fine at LAX. He dropped by to do some finish ADR for the 3rd act climax scene where there was a large amount of other things in the room that drowned out the dialogue. David was talented, professional, and funny as usual. He just finished doing TRAUMA for television. He is doing a feature called "POE" next week where he was actually able to rewrite his part in the movie. It was really wonderful hanging out with him again. I took him over to Studio City after he was done.

David is such a pro.

Stephanie French came by for more ADR on the second day. She still has another 1/2 day to go next week. (Note to self... Next film pay for a Schoeps microphone... and Steve Tibbo and a team on set for all shots. ) I was surprised at the small number of shots that needed to be ADR'd in STRICKEN. We actually had most shots very well miked. Here Stephanie French and Matt listen on "the Bigs."
4552305671_a0a6733d55_b.jpg

Finally, here is a shot of Steve Tibbo checking lip sync of Stephanie French's ADR in a dramatic shower scene. Steve used ProTools for his audio, and yes, he used a (*gasp*) Mac... (Beware the Dark Side, Luke!)
4552945682_53655706f9_b.jpg

Matt and Troy took oodles of BTS stills and video on their respective GH1's so keep checking in for updates of the ADR sessions.

Score is coming along, VFX-Matt is on the last reel to do and we will have a complete feature done soon to be premiered.

Matt and I are working hard on our next screenplay. We are on the last rewrite of THE PARK. More on that soon.

Best wishes! --Gary :engel017:

Matt and Kenn Arola are headed down to LA for more ADR tomorrow. You may remember Kenn was the lead in the PUSH short.

One more ADR date after that and we will be done with ADR. Also, I heard the sound design for part of reel 1 today... Oh my... IT WAS GREAT!!! Good job guys.
