FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

I'm curious to about how I can get my short film on IMDB.
How did you guys get it up ?

I my experience, shorts can go up on the IMDB after they have been documented as being released by having something written in a trade magazine, being distributed or by being accepted and shown at a film festival that turns films away. All my shorts got onto the IMDB from being shown at film festivals that could turn films away. I believe there are new steps forward though as mentioned above where if your short is registered with Without a box or through amazon? they can be posted on the IMDB. I am unsure of this though as I have never done it this way. Stricken was able to go on the IMDB because it was written about in the Large paper in the area documenting it was in Pre-production.

Tim it's very easy, become a member of imdb, you probably should pay to be a member of imdb pro as well. then sign up to WITHOUTABOX which is right on the imdb page, and it's affiliated with imdb.
Its free to sign up. Then all you gotta do is either enter your short into one single film festival on the WITHOUTABOX webpage (might cost you $35) or sign up to sell your short on amazon.com (it's free to do so) and either way your short will end up being listed on imdb. pretty cool. i'm working on getting all my shorts up there now so i can fool people into thinking i'm a filmmaker.

if you try to submit a film to IMDB and they reject it, can you always just try again later? or will they remember you, and keep rejecting it lol

i think so, just read my post and do that and you should be fine.

right, but you need a "short" to do that correct? I'm shooting a feature, and I was trying to get it on IMDB previous to it actually being done. You can't submit to withoutabox without something to actually show I would guess. I've got tons of local press, and a few articles on national emagazines.. not sure if thats enough though.

I guess its worth a shot.

(sorry to hijack your thread Matt)

Actually I think you'll be ok, I believe i read on WITHOUTBOX that you can pay for the submission to a film festival, even though you aren't actually submitting your film, and it will still show up on imdb. (whether it's a short or feature).
but go to WITHOUTABOX and look into it.

It sounds weird but i think it's true.

It is true, which is pretty BS. All you need to do is submit a film through Withoutabox, pay the submission fee and the site will send you an IMDB code that will get you a page for your film within a few days, regardless of whether your film was accepted or you actually sent the submission or not. It's pretty much the quickest way to get on IMDB now, since if you try to submit your film through the normal channel, they'll ignore you for months even if your film does qualify.

But I don't think it's BS in a bad way, I for one, think it's amazing to be able to get on IMDB.
I have friends who have been developing their feature film for years and could not get a listing on IMDB, so i think it's power to the people.

Sorry Matt to hijack your thread, back to business.

'Terminator' dies, Lives Again! (Whew!)

'Terminator' dies, Lives Again! (Whew!)

For many of you that have Windows Vista 64 Ultimate, like us, you know that the program is basically crud. We have it as the program on our huge editing computer, the 'Terminator' because the computer was built before Windows 7 was released.

Well, it crashed and burned totally. :badputer:

We got this screen when we tried to turn it on last weekend. All online research solutions for fixing the problem failed miserably. Ahhhhhhhh!

Nothing Matt could do could get it to turn on again. We photographed each start up screen and this screen and then called our Aftershock I.T. Hector Bordens, a virtuoso with computers... And TREMINATOR's original creator.

Hector was able to diagnose the problem as (he says, a very common) "Vista registry error." He then launched into the fix. We have been saving at random times to be sure to get the editing saved as we go, so Matt wasn't too worried. His recent pace of editing though has tremendously increased, so if the computer went down, he would stand to lose a few important investments of his time. Here are Matt and Hector with 'Terminator' going over our photos of the 'Death Screens'..

You can see the spiffy innards of the Terminator as it is re-born in its new incarnation: TERMINATOR II - RISE OF THE MACHINE!

We updated Vista over the original copy, (unfortunately, we had to keep it until the project was completely done), and then reinstalled all the drivers for all the raid stuff, the card and hard drives, etc,... Then we re-installed CS4, and all of our other video editing and effects programs.

Thankfully, we were able to keep all of our project files for everything intact... WHEW! This made a happy Matt... Who now backs up all project work each and every day.

Matt would probably spontaneously COMBUST if the movie data was lost from the various and sundry hard drives. (*POOOF!*)

Thank you God, ...Whew!

Glad you guys dodged that bullet. Losing data sucks. I need to just build a giant RAID array for everything. I wish it were simpler/cheaper.

Yep, but hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours of work on it with 4 raid 0 arrays spinning 10 Hard drives and running on Vista 64...Blech...gives MUCH room for registry issues. Everything is going smoothly now so far and I am almost done completely with a Huge section of the Movie. Things are going well. -Matt

Yeah, just by looking at that first screen reminds me of the miserable registry issue. Good to hear your Terminator I.T. got it down.

The last picture really summed up the story. Hurray!

UPDATE! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
Matt is finishing all VFX for reel 1 of 4 completely. He has 315 layers so far in After Effects for the first reel. :kali:

Recently I was trying to pre-comp a section of video layers and AE kept crashing. I was like "Stupid computer...you are supposed to be fast!....Oh....I have 315 layers open....better consolidate some of that..." haha I love Terminator 2. Hopefully it can keep on trucking until I can finish this movie! -Matt

How would you feel if each of your features require a newly built comp?

I am definitely going to re-build for each feature. As soon as Stricken is wrapped and loaded onto hard drives everywhere so it is safe, I am going to gut my raid arrays and replace them with new hard drives for raiding. I am then going to upgrade my ram from 24gb to 96gb and my two quad core xeons from 2.4 ghz to 3.9. That should be nice!

Final Render progressing, Reel 1 of 4

Final Render progressing, Reel 1 of 4

Matt has just set off with an over 52943 frame render of the whole first reel. It ways it will take three hours, with over 315 layers in After Effects.

The effects for the entire VFX intensive last reel are already done. We are really making progress! Yay!

Ooooo hypercrane shot! Sunset colors are sweet at the graveyard scene. MAtt is really excited about the trailer he will be able to make after the reels are rendered.

Terminator II is moving faster than anticipated... It has already rendered 1/10 and now says we have under two hours left... This is going fast!
