FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

Hey guys! I calibrated my monitor to what I believe is a much better set up. Below are two stills. The first is from the original and the second is the new setup. I want people to be able to see the dark markings on the girl in the bed's face, so with the new balance, I believe it is more accurate to my desires. Let me know if you can see the second image better than the first. Thanks!

Oh yes!!! So much better. I can clearly see the facial stuff, and yes, Stephanie French is a superior human being in every way!

Notice now you see detail in the window in the back too... (hmmmmmm?)

Much better. Still a little dark on my uncalibrated monitor, but that's no surprise...I have it set a bit dim for ease on the eyes in non-video apps.

Huge improvement. I now even notice someone in the doorway. Can you update your vfx side of building grabs with the new calibration?

Looking good.

really? that's pretty spooky. wow this is so much different that "Stricken" the short. Gotta include that as an extra on the blu-ray. :)

I know Ted, I just figured maybe there might be a blog somewhere sharing more details on the production process. Maybe even some making of videos.

Would you mind sharing how you did this? That's a remarkable improvement.

Hey guys! Just got back from a day jam packed with errands and got to check out the thread.

FilmFrenzy. This thread is a blog from the first day we jumped into go mode for Stricken until now. I think you can learn a lot from reading it if you would like to. I am probably going to write a book about this experience after we sell the movie as I learned a TON of stuff. In fact, I am having a director's seminar for actors in Fresno on the 20th to teach them things I learned on set.

The above was accomplished with The curves tool in AE on the original footage (Not the dark image) and that is it. I had been CC'ing everything too dark because my monitors were not calibrated, but once I changed them my CC's were true to life.

As a side note, if I actually had to brighten an image from the first dark image the steps would be:
1. Curves tool in AE to brighten
2. Render uncompressed AVI
3. Re-import to AE
4. Use Neat Video to erase noise and leave detail
5. Export final scene

If you do not have neat video...GO GET IT! It is amazing for noise reduction and when used befoe pulling a key, it makes the key perfect. If not working with Red footage, neat video is a must. Best wishes!

I would love to see it do thyat well. Hopefully I can get a great marketing team onboard or the distributor can see the potential and go for the greeat marekting campaign. Making a feature film this VFX intensive for almost no money is a large feat. It has now been 1 year and 1 month since I began intensive preproduction, and the script and groundwork began 1-2 years before that. Whew! It has been a long road!

"Stricken" is going to Murder "Paranormal Activity"!!!!

David, Matt is now working on finishing and rendering the amazing scene with you, Stephanie and two looming pistols... WHAT A SCENE!!! What amazing acting!
I still get chills when I see that scene. When you two did that scene live, my eyes teared up even while holding the large fan... I was so caught up in your lines. Man, I can't wait for people to see it.

I am Hoping So Brandon! It all depends on two things. Will it be ready (Which I think is a definite yes) and will a Distributor have already waded in and not want it there? We will see. I hope to wow AOF with it this year though. -Matt
