FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

The drywall from the police station set is reused! It was really fun putting that 8' drywall piece up on top of the left wall. Matt was in the tower with a long stabilizing pole helping me or it probably would have splatted. That stuff is heavy! We both agreed that we did not have to completely cover the backing boards with drywall. We just needed to have a little around the action to key.

A view up from the stunt actresses eyes to David Fine as Detective Aro in the crow's nest. The whole inhabited tower is actually overbuilt for safety. It is 24' up to the top where we will have HVX and RED both shooting down from a 4'x4' platform at one point. We will be testing lighting next week and I will post pics. I hope to have 9 shocklights and kinos on the green screen walls with other fluorescents in the tower itself. It will be a challenge to evenly light both walls and action with shadows minimized. I am going to try to throw any minimal action shadows into the gap between the walls.

Tomorrow I mud the seams, build the interior 2/3 wall, sand the outside seams and paint all chromakey green... Again. :)

Haha, how about Operation team up with Aftershock Studios! :) -Matt

Yeah, baby, bi-coastal! You coming out to the screening event on the 25th? I will be out there that week if you want to meet up some time. Maybe I should drive out one day and see all of this amazing technology in person...

Hi! I'm new in here and I've taken a look at this post.

I must say WOW! It looks terrific! Keep on working!

By the way, is there a trailer or something to have a peek (is it the correct expression? That's not my mother language)?

I probably will not be there, but you never know. We definitely need to meet sometime! -Matt:beer:

The wall is done and lighting tests are being performed. I am finishing three more Shocklights (our Kino's). Today I built a flying rig that will be inside by the 2/3 size duplicate of this wall. I next will be building an interior stunt window after the lights. Greenscreens are ready to mount inside and on the floor. I must still block off 6 sets of windows for daytime night shooting. I have started to get scaffolding and platforms ready for lighting this monolith. I will even have one Shocklight up in a bucket of my tractor! Rooms are ready for actors and crew. Here is the wall, all drywalled, mudded, and with two coats of chromakey green... which I spilled all over the carpet today. Next week baby! Yay!

Okay, its definitely time to initiate "Operation Steal Gary Sconce."

LOL! I can retire from teaching science in 4 years. No kidnapping until then. :dankk2:
Actually Matt and I are working on a wonderful comedy script right now. We possibly will work toward that feature next. We have both laughed to tears while brainstorming parts of the script, the concept is that funny, and the characters are wonderful. No other hints will be given now however. Shhhhhh.

It looks awesome! but I was expecting something more supernatural. Anyway, it's really awesome and totally professional.

I can't wait to see it! Will it be released in Spain? Will it be sold or distributed on the internet?

Oh, and don't forget to check out my psychologic thriller sci-fi short film: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=176472

Mwahahaha....we couldn't show those parts...the official trailer will show more of those elements.

I am building the top tower camera mount today. It has to stand upright to mount the camera, for safety sake, and then pivot down to the shoot sight for the down shot. I'll show pics later.
:)

I went cheap and easy on the top camera mount. I have a 3/4" ply 8"x40" board bolted onto three hinges. All I will do is velcro strap the tripod (closed) onto the board and then tip the works down to the shooting position. This will allow use of the superior liquid head and strong mount of the tripod.

I finished the green wall 11'X15' and covered all the windows. The place is completely ready now. Here is the top half of the 2/3 wall inside with just two shocklights on it. I also show the shocklights pivoted up to the wall. I will light with way more than this, but you get the idea.

The top back will be lit and also greenscreened. There is a staircase to the right for variable positioning of the camera close ups.
Here are two shocklights. We will be using 7 in here.

The floor will also be greenscreened on top of plywood.

One more day to get ready! Whoot!

This is madness!

UPDATE: T-Minus 4 days until actor wrap. Tonight we film an hour north in Oakhurst by a drain pipe. It is the first day the two kids in the film arrive on set. They are great, so things should go well. Saturday we tackle the Effects shots with the green wall of goodness.:engel017:

Good luck with the remainder of the shoot ... tell David I said hi (mention Mr. Winters and he'll know who I am).

Anxious to see the final film  ... what a journey from the dvxfest short, huh? :)
