FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

Just thought I'd pop in and say congratulations on making your film. I've followed for a bit and commend you for doing such an awesome job.

The shot looked too dark on my monitor too (15.4" Macbook Pro (the new unibodies, so I assume glossy screen) - barely make out the house.

Yep still dark on mine too, but quite a bit better. At a point pretty close to this though, I'd refrain from commenting further due to the fact that my monitor isn't calibrated, and things look a bit dark in FCP on it as well (which is partly an FCP thing).

To others: please not that you must play the clip to see the part in question. The thumbnail on this page is pre-effect.

It looks a bit dark on my screen...

I watched this at work 19" LCD and surprisingly it looks much better at home on my 17" hannspree LCD .. I don't think I calibrated any of the monitors so yeah... though the night effect looks good but the rain could be better if seen better

Either one looks great on my monitors Matt. Depending on the feel that you are going for they both look good. If you are seeking a spooky or leery feel then the first one looked the best on my computer monitors. I could see it just fine on my monitor, I am able to make out the house, especially when the lightning strikes it looks really good. The second one the house was very pronounced and looks more like a plain cut away verses invoking some type of feeling.

I saw both on my monitor, and you are familiar with it. The first was eerie and depending on how it looks on your TV, seemed dark and scary to me. In the second one the roof of the house seemed to stand out a little... Not in a bad way, but just in a noticable way.

Both good, depending on what you want. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Interesting... STRICKEN has shot up 132% in popularity on IMDB.com. With the success of, and profit being made by Paranormal Activity, people are starting to notice that STRICKEN has a similar profit making potential and are checking it out. GREAT!

Go to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1375754/ and check it out!

As the Executive Producer of STRICKEN, this is exciting. :kali: We have a solid, exciting product that will be very profitable to any who pick it up, and have written it in such a way as to be able to make future sequels, creating a franchise potential for whoever owns it.

How is this? Is it still too dark on your screens? I included the different passes I used in AE.

Is this just a test made with a still? Because the trees are not moving though there's a thunder storm. The rain looks a little 2 dimensional, maybe add a second rain layer? The water on the ground and lightning looks pretty natural to me and the brightness is just right on my screen (calibrated).

The trailer looks really nice and interesting, congratulations on making that movie and good luck, seems promising!

It was made with a video clip, but there was no wind on that day. Maybe I will add some movement with the Puppet tool. I am also going to add a push and use some 3D space perspective shifts which should make it feel like areas are moving at different rates relative to the camera push. Thanks! -Matt

New vfx test! :cheesy:

Another Night City Rain Shot:
Things done in this VFX test:
Trapcode Particular RAIN Close and Distant, CCRain, lightning, mocha tracking and sky replacement, blinking light, distance haze, window rain, and Color Grading

gotta say...that's pretty awesome.

And here I am worrying about adding a little shadow in the far corner of one of my shots....

Ooooooooooooooooo! I really like the scene and love the blinking light on the Fresno Security Bank building. I can imagine it with thunder. You are having waaaaaay too much fun Matt!

"That'll doo Donkey." :kali:

I would add windy movement to the trees on the right and left to have movement easily seen when the lightning flashes. :kali:
