FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

STRICKEN UPDATE:

Hello everyone!

Stricken is going great! Last night, my interview about Stricken aired on KAIL Channel 53. I was featured on about a 10-20 minute segment of the "Eye on Horror" show and I feel it went well. Some sneak peaks were shown as video played behind me on my editing monitors, and the Teaser Trailer was shown for the first time on the Air. I have been hearing good things about the interview, and hope it brings even more distributors to Stricken's door. We already have 8 groups waiting to see a screener, mostly distributors and some sales agents. They have all contacted me, so the information on Stricken is getting out there.

I watched the rough locked-ish cut of Stricken last night on Blue Ray DVD on my 50 inch Television and was extremely happy with it's look. It looked crisp, the movement was beautiful, the actors look great and I cannot wait for it to be in finished form so I can show all of you!

I have some great people involved in this post process and am adding more by the day. It is no longer that the Ball is rolling on Stricken's journey...it is more like the Indiana Jones Boulder. Things are going well and excitement is increasing each day.

The following story tells you how things have been going for Stricken these last 6 months of Stricken filming. Things just fall into place exactly how we need them to...

We were going out to shoot b-roll and insert shots of the City on Saturday. My father and I had permits to film the exterior of the police station and film from the top of a 7 story Parking Structure. Our goal was to get some exteriors, a timelapse sunset over the city, and some city at night shots. We shot the exteriors, then moved to the parking structure. We quickly realized the view we would get of the sunset would be behind Grizzly stadium's lights and look nothing like a cityscape. We then frantically began to drive to find an alternative location to see some of the city and the sunset at the same time. Within 1 minute of driving, we encountered an individual, who will remain nameless to protect them, that agreed to help us (Although we had just talked to them out of our car window to ask where we may be able to get that shot. They took us to the top of the TALLEST BUILDING IN FRESNO and let us not only shoot our sunset and daylight city shots, but our night shots as well. We rode a speed elevator then climbed a 20ft ladder with our equipment to get there, but filming from a 22 story location vs a 7 story location made all the difference!

After the shots, we went to the city parking structure to film some close night shots. We were filming downward at the streets and getting traffic racing by and stoplights, etc. We REALLY needed a shot of our character Jenny's car turning around after her change of heart but had not been able to film it yet. It had to be a specific car and it had to turn a specific way. We thought of calling Christina Tellifson and have her drive out so we could get the shot, but it was getting late. As we were wondering about that, the exact car we needed car not only drove under us, but accomplished the same exact turn we needed! It was like we had planned it!

Since the start of Stricken, that is how things have been going. We are blessed and very greatful! Take care everyone! -Matt Sconce

I am watching Stricken on Blu Ray in HD on my PS3 on my 50 inch Television at the moment for the first time. I am extremely pleased with how it looks. This will be used to show the technical screening on Friday. After that, I will lock the cut.

I wanna see! I wanna see!

Ah memories...

Cool stuff! Glad that everything seems to be going your way. It seems usually the opposite is true...

Everything is going so well. We are really having fun getting all of the final threads together in the Stricken cloth. After watching an edit screener with Matt, and with sound unfinished and FX still to do on many shots... It still was really good.

It is so enjoyable watching David Fine and Stephanie French do their thing. The supporting acting is great also.

We have our final team 'locked' edit screener this Friday and we all will be as critical as we need to be for any final changes or ideas. We have been told that an Academy Award and Emmy award winning editor will "be happy to go through the final edit with Matt." I hope that works out.

Well tomorrow is the first time the post team will see the film. :Drogar-Shock(DBG): I am screening it for them on Blu-ray and have printed out screening notebooks that have images from each scene on the left, and room for notes on the right. After this, I will lock the edit in about a week. :engel017:

Right on! Have fun!
Wow I had such a great time at the screening! Everyone brought amazing insight and I want to thank you. each bit of feedback has helps Stricken immensely. Thank you so much! If you want I swould love if you posted some things you liked about stricken In this thread.

Technical Screening pics: Director Matt Sconce lays out his desires for the screeners for the evening. Matt focused on what he was looking for in terms of notes and ideas. Matt gets a lot of creativity out of his team.

10 people worked on the technical screener to fine tune the edit. Included were actors, sound, tech, writers, VFX people and the composer.

Each person was given a notebook with key scene sections in which to write notes on feedback.

There was pizza, soda and cookies... Life was good!

We watched the HD version of the cut on a huge TV. Here are actors David Fine (Detective Scott Aro) and Dave Johnson (Detective Frank Rich) in a police station scene.

We all worked through any scenes we had questions about into the wee hours. Matt and James Mierkey, with grip James Nelson off camera were still at it when I finally went home. Tremendous positive work was done on the final edit ideas tonight. Wonderful!

Forward, always forward!

I have to say, the screening was exciting. I was inspired to see that all of the hard work up to now has produced a quality product...and there is more yet to do. The acting is great. The two actors in the lead roles gave wonderful performances that draw you in to the plot and help you experience the film rather than just watch it. I was impressed by the quality of even the raw untouched footage and there are a fair share of big time money shots that really set this film apart. It is an honor to be part of the team with all these talented and passionate folks.

Chomping at the bit...

Thanks James! I was very glad to have you there!

Mr. David Fine, Congrats to you on your nomination!!!:2vrolijk_08:
Also, thanks for everything!

It's definitely *much* too dark on my 30" Apple Cinema Display, which is uncalibrated but still more or less ballpark for an LCD in moderate interior light (there's absolutely no daylight in my studio control room). The vimeo clip is virtually unidentifiable - I wouldn't even know it was of a house if I hadn't seen the unprocessed shot.

But I'm sure you'll haver no trouble making it look right : )
