Stream into Powerbook with Avid xpress?

How can I stream HVX into my powerbook (10.3.9)
I do not use FCP. I have Avid Xpress.
I patched HVX into the firewire port.
I tried to capture and Avid tells me "no video signal"

I also can not get a P2 card to moun to the desktop. I can get the offload direct from the HVX- but when I remove the card and slide it into the powerbook- nothing.
Do I need 10.4 ?

From what I've come across it seems you would need OS X 10.4.7 and Avid Xpress Pro 5.5.2 for starters.

Also, if you already haven't, review the Panasonic HVX 200 section of the following White Paper by Avid:

What do you mean you can get the offload direct from the HVX 200 but you can't the card to mount to the desktop? Do you mean if you go firewire HVX 200 to Powerbook the cards mount, but if you try using the PCIMIA slot on the Powerbook in that instance they do not mount?

yes.
HVX to Powerbook- card mounts.
P2 card in the PCMIA slot card will not mount.

And yes- I am running an old version of express 4.8. I'll upgrade.
But why can't the card mount through the PCMIA slot- upgrade Mac OS?

I'm not really much of a laptop guy so I'm not really sure why the card won't mount from the Powerbook's PCMIA slot. This is a slightly older G4 Powerbook and not a new Intel MacBook Pro right? To my understanding, right now, the only Mac laptops that will read the cards are the G4 Powerbooks.

I don't think the OS upgrade will fix that issue for you. However, I'm not really sure as to the root of that problem.

Yes.
I am using an old powerbook G4 1.5 2gig.
I tried re-boot several times and still nothing.
I can only get the card to mount when I patch the camera to the firewire port.
I checked my PCMIA slot with a bus card and it mounts- so it's not the slot.

Please- what is the trick?
 
If you mean the P2 driver- yes.
It sees the card when it's in the camera and the camera's patched to Powerbook- I am able to transfer files and dump to an external drive no problem.

The issue is when I try to use the P2 card in the PC slot. Doesn't mount.

Is there something else I need to download?
