Store P2 cards in camera?

i would also like to know, i just kind of have my 16's in there all the time, is this not a wise decision?

You always know where they are, always ready to shoot.

The question might seem strange, but tapes and accus should always be detached for understandable reasons.

Is there any decharge or magnetic damage caused, when P2 cards are always in the HVX?

You can't magnetically damage the card. At least not with any magnetic source you're likely to come across.

I can't think of a way it could hurt the cards to keep them in the HVX, but I, too, think it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to keep them in it.

Well if you only have a few P2 cards, why not just leave them in there? If nothing else, it lessens the number of insertion / removal times, which does cause some wear long-term.

I offload the cards using the camera's USB device mode, so I don't even remove them to get my footage. I only have three cards total -- two are always in my first camera, the other is always in the second HVX. The only time they ever come out is if I need to shoot continuously for some reason.

I always leave two cards in mine. You never know when something unexpected is going to happen and I always know i have two formatted cards in the slots ready to go.

This is right up there with other great questions of our time:

paper or plastic?

boxers or briefs?

do you eat the Oreo filling before the cookie?

LOL LOL You are a NUT!! That's funny, but seriously though when you get a cam like the HVX, Varicam, Red... YOu tend to take care of it and want to make the best move.

If there was a reason to remove them I'd like to know too, but as far as "ready to go" I always leave them in the camera. Any reason not too?

Leave 'em in.. I do and friend who haven't have lost the little rubber things and the cases.. My cases are nice and safe.. at home..

It's like having a gun. It should be loaded and ready to shoot... I also just like knowing it's in the cam and not floating around my bags... They ain't cheap and you can't go buy it at the store like you can with DV...
Keep 'em locked and loaded
