Stock Footage Swap

Re: Stock Footage Swap

Son of Jor-El . . .

New members have every potential for good footage, but it's not a question of that -- it's more like, who do you trust not to grab your footage and spread it around at will? There's a certain comfort level needed.

Re: Stock Footage Swap

This is more complicated than we thought. But that is okay. Good things require proper dilligence.

1. I'd love to get a mini-credit on someones project if they used my footage

2. I'd love to list any of you as a mini credit if I used your footage.

Out loud thinking!

I agree, you dont just want anyone using the footage. Its all a porn film! ouch!

Re: Stock Footage Swap

You're always taking the chance that someone will do something with your footage that you wouldn't want them to do when you give/sell them a pristine copy of your stuff. That's why all the big companies have all that legal backup and contractual goodness. But even with all that, I'm sure you can find a large amount of their stock library swimming amongst the sea of Britney Spears music videos and Janet Jackson halftime shows via any one of those P2P networks (Kazaa, etc.).

That being said, like someone else suggested, it may be a good idea to have a single-use contract drafted as a model for the individual agreements.

Re: Stock Footage Swap

What about the issue of actually previewing footage? We'd have to have low-res versions online somewhere for people to pick out what they want in the first place. Otherwise, how would you tell someone what footage you want from them?

Re: Stock Footage Swap

I log on a couple times a week and also dont see tom much action! Chatting in realtime is hard for me when im at the office. It easier for me to check the board and move on when needed.

I have seen Johan and Steve there though. Usually during the daytime.

Re: Stock Footage Swap

When someone figures out how to make this stock footage thing work Im game.

Re: Stock Footage Swap

Why don't we just start off as of now? Meaning:

Let me know if footage or certain scenes are needed in San Diego or area. Could be establishing shots of landmarks or whateva'

Just post or send PM stating what is needed and the other can say Yay or Nay. Should the person send a tape and SASE?

Thinking out loud. Lots to figure. Funny, cool thing about San Diego is we have desert, beach, urban city, mountains, Mexico.

Would be great to give illusion to a project as in:

EXT - ALCATRAZ ISLAND

:D

Re: Stock Footage Swap

Hi Guys, I have recently moved so my connectivity to the fine DVXuser at present is somwhat limited.
Since I started this topic, I am in!!! we just have to define the logistic of how to organize it. Some of us have the ability to host stills or low rez vids to showcase what we have for the members.

Also some of us are in other countries so shipping and sending of this mterial might be alittle more complex.

Also John you are in San Diego...what about the naval military bases there...some cool boat or sub shots at magic hour.

Re: Stock Footage Swap

john, seaport village, coronado! also, the mtv real world house area is nice =)

Re: Stock Footage Swap

Hey Hudson, you could pop on up to Camp Pendleton and have my little brother show you around the base and get some shnazzy Marine footage :)

Re: Stock Footage Swap

I know I haven't been here long, but if different locations are what you're looking for, my friend and I could probably help out.

Toronto has some of the best urban footage you can get. Industrial, commercial, and suburban... not to mention a great waterfront. People come here to shoot all kinds of urban stuff.

Helps too if you're looking for winter footage... we get enough winter to share... ::)

Re: Stock Footage Swap

I have often thought of getting footage from Camp Pendleton. They offer free tours every 3rd Thursday of the month, however, it has been tough making contact with anyone due to the war in Iraq.

I live roughly 20 minutes from Camp Pendleton and often see tanks and helo's going through manuevers. I would love to get footage of that ****! It is clearly visible from the freeway so it is not a secret.

I see no real issues wiht getting fooatge of the Military and Naval Base (Pacific Fleet) except one. With the heightended sense of security regarding Homeland defense, it is not as easy as going over and shooting anymore. Now you have Customs and Port Authority monitoring everything. Most likely a matter of clearnce and permits?

Re: Stock Footage Swap

yeah, this needs to be thoroughly thought out, unless you don't care about businesses making thousands of dollars from your footage without paying a cent, all the meanwhile clogging up the bandwith of the only free stock footage gig in town.

i can't really think of an easy way to do something like this without it leading to legal fights and hard feelings. it's a wonderful utopian idea though & i commend anyone who can make it a reality.

Re: Stock Footage Swap

john--

i work for a defense company, so i can say from experience that trying to obtain the rights to shoot at any military installation is a royal pain in the A.

you wouldn't believe how much planning and paperwork is necessary for a simple shoot. my advice--your time and money is better spent elsewhere.

Just curious..I cam across this old thread....

Did this idea of swapping original material ever pan out with anyone?

Well as you all should know we did start the website for stock footage and it took off quite well, i've made several thousand dollars off of it and so have many other members. If you're interested in joining....just kidding...this idea was just too damn complicated for a bunch of folks who don't even know one another.
