Still doing it at 50....

Good to see real Hip Hop still lives some place. This is the kind of Hip Hop MTV doesn't want you to see. What I love about it is mentions he's 50 years old, but he can still bring it: Chuck, the S1Ws, Flava Flav hyping the scene and even Professor Griff makes a cameo. No one wants to listen to lyrics that mean anything any more. Everything shouldn't be about BS. I heard five song in a row about booty on a radio station once. I get it, booty is awesome, so let's move on to something with some content. This is the real stuff from a crew that's still respected.

Yeah, Nathyn, I had to quote the song in the 'listening' thread.
Man, I love it. I had to put it in the other thread for future reference, that's all.
It's just too good.

(So, that's why I'm quoting you so quickly in another thread.)

Great band band man.

They were here last week, I gave my ticket away because I spent the afternoon at the dentist and just wasn't feeling it. Watching that makes me regret my decision...

One of the best videos you won't see. Old school PE, almost 20 years ago (OMG I feel old). These are real videos, not that 50 Cent "I'll Kill You" BS.

Easily one of my favorite rap acts ever. And for the same reason. They rap ABOUT things. They have things to say.

@Nat

You feel old? 20 years ago? What was that then? 1990?

Oh jeez, you must have a walker by now. You must be a crippled up old fart.

lol. Ohhhh, I don't think your that bad off yet. Can you still do, oh, 30 pushups? Yeah, then your fine man.

Sorry Nat if I piss you off here. I'm just about ready to head out.

Here's a line that'll get me busted.

Don't think that I'm some white dude taking up the cause of the black people. Personally, I don't like anyone. I like animals. NOT people.

So let's start from there. I liked the song. Now I'm going to go eat a hot dog. That's how deep my thought patterns go, at the moment.

Good song.

Does that clear up any misconceptions?

Cause I don't give a poo poo. I'm hungry man. I'm outta beer and outta dope.

Gord out.

-Later.

LOL, I do a hundred actually, I'm getting ready for a film. :)

You don't piss me off at all. I'm glad people of all colors can appreciate PE. They teamed up with Anthrax for the song "Bring the Noise". This stuff is what I used to listen to along with PM Dawn (whose doing Gospel now), Hammer, Run DMC and other MCs who were cutting edge in their time but got eclipsed by "gansta" rap. It was fine when it was just another genre then it became the genre.

Intellectual hip hop with revolutionary overtones.

The way I see it (growing up a suburban white boy)…..the first three Public Enemy records are like hardcore/punk rock for the hip-hop crowd. There's some real pissed, high-energy **** going on there.

The intro on Fear of a Black Planet, and then it goes into Brothers Gonna Work It Out…that's some crazy ****!!!!! Doesn't matter what the genre is, when the youth are angry and talented, something good is going to happen. (Having Rick Rubin as a producer won't hurt either)

PE is one of those bands I probably hear at least once a week in some way or another. They are legendary.

And still one of the best rap acts going. It's hard to like a lot the new acts beyond the fact a song is the summer hit or club banger, but they're mostly forgettable. And they haven't really changed their sound either. This is Public Enemy, what you hear is what you get.

Most of what I love is from 80s, early 90s. PE, Cube, Tribe, Underground, Run, Beastie Boys. For a little later, love Wu Tang, Actually like Bone, Thugs and Harmony. I liked Eminem. Brilliant rhymer, but he only had enough to fill up one album before everything started to sound like a repeat. Also for fun people, Pharcyde, MC Paul Barman.

Never got into Wu Tang, and for a while almost all my friends loved the group. Not so much now but back then they're all I ever heard my friends talk about about.

Wu Tang is just this side of ridiculous. They rapped about Kung Fu stuff, Killer bees. And there seemed to be like 30 of them. The RZA was kind of the power behind it all, and definitely the most talented and skilled. Also, very very funny bit with The RZA and The GZA and Bill Murray in Coffee * Cigarettes.
