What kind of editing desk do you use?

Not to change the subject but does anybody work in HD and use an HD monitor? All I see are NTSC CRTs, what's the deal?

I know Shane has the 23" Cinema with the MXO, don't you Shane? But the picture doesn't look like it.

Just wondering. Everyone talks about HD but can anyone here monitor it?

No...that monitor is the Sony PVM-14L5 HD CRT. That is my main monitor. The ACD is what I use when I use my laptop at home. Although now I have TWO towers, so the ACD is on the G5 now. Another ACD and I can use the MXO with that.

NTSC monitors are not all HD CRTs...only a couple are. NTSC usually means SD. HD LCDs are the wave of now. Panasonic, JVC, Sony...eCinema, TVLOGIC...and no, they aint' cheap.

Heres an old shot of mine, ive updated it quite a bit now, added a bookendz dock for my mbp, removed the elevator, added my autograph from Steve Woz to that board behind the desk.

While we're on the topic.....

Anyone here have a desk tall enough you can stand and work at?
It may sound odd to some, but I really want to switch out my desk for one I can work at standing up - I can't help but think it would wind up being more comfortable and keep me more alert (and keep me from sitting for hours on end with horrible posture).

It might be that I prefer that because I used to work in radio - and all the production rooms at the stations are set up that way.

Anyhow - just curious if anyone has a setup like that.

You know, Luis, Walter Murch works the same way. He wrote in In the Blink of an Eye about how he prefers to edit standing up. I think his reasoning was that chefs and conductors work standing up, so editors should too.

If you want the upright alertness without killing your legs you might want to look at a sit/stand stool. Used to work at an airline gate standing for hours at a time and this was a nice way to stay almost standing but to keep the load off of your feet. Much more comfortable for my back than a normal barstool. The only ones I've seen though are industrial and carry an industrial price tag...

I have an ikea desk system tat I think can go pretty high up. I originally bought it due to its versatility and configurability.
