StickyPod new Advertiser/Contest. Win a Stickypod

John, have you got Adobe Image Ready? Just bring your photoshop file into it, and it's SUPER easy to animate. If you have the software, I can tell you just a few easy steps to get on your way.

Totally have Imageready!

Ya know Hansk sent me a file a whiles back (the animated Walken Halloween one) and gave me a brief run down but I never got around to it.............................)

So yeah; and tips would be great!!!

How I do it (and I'm sure there's a better way - just figured it out on my own) is the following:

Go to your tool bar & select Window
Select "Animation"

You'll have a new window pop up with a single frame that's got your file showing in it. Then when you want to create another frame (I think of it as those old animated books you flip the pages on), just click the page/frame next to the trashcan in that Animation window. It'll duplicate the frame.

Any changes you make to your artwork will be reflected in that frame only, the previous frames remain untouched. Duplicate the next frame & make your changes.

If you want a gradual transition, you'll want to select a frame you want to transition to/from, then choose TWEEN. Careful though, this can make for big file sizes.

Just tweek the thing to taste. If the frames are flying by too fast, then just duplicated as many of the same frame as you need to until it works for what you want.

Probably not doing a great job of explaining, but hope it helps a little.

When you've got all the frames in place that you want, go to file, then choose SAVE OPTIMIZED AS ... should default to a gif file, if not, select .gif & save. That's it.

i dont know imageready at all but know flash very well, and a really easy way to slow down how fast things are going is to change the frame rate.

Thanks for making me dig a little further, Jarred. BTW, is there a way to have our banner be a small Flash file instead of jpg/gif? Doubt it, but just thought I'd ask.

No variable frame rate options with Image Ready that I can see ... BUT,

John, if you look under the frame(s) in the animation window of your Image Ready program, you'll see the default saying "0 sec." with an arrow for drop down. Click on that, and you can actually get the frame to HOLD for as long as you'd like. Shoot, too bad it's too late to edit my stickypod banner!

One last thing, there's a drop down box in the very bottom left corner of the Animation window. It defaults to "Once", but you'll want to select "forever" so your gif animation will repeat.

flash screws up the DHTML on the page so its off.. sorry. maybe next time we upgrade the site it will be rocking.

Great job explainin!

LOL It's always a matter of someone explaining it to you!

I had to get Hansk in there since he initially turned me onto the idea of learnin it; but you made me go 'Alright, fine! Let's do it!'

I actually dig the one you have, but just like anything when you find a new toy, you've got to go nuts with it & get it out of your system.

Like when I unlocked the world of editing when I finally discovered keyframing. EVERYTHING had to have keyframing transitioning effects, pans, zooms, etc.

Only thing I've wondered about the banner you have up now, John, is the upper right corner ... looks like it got erased, or is it supposed to be like that? Otherwise, killer font & colors. Look forward to your gif banner!

Ya know; that is just a little dot (like the ones spreckled throughout). I was going to have a few falling off the page but never previewed the one dot I added and just saved as final...

Jarred/John/Any Mod ... just saw the new guidelines that was posted a couple days ago, and read the following:

"Signatures. All banners should be 569x70 pixels and please—no animation in your sig. Weird-sized, gigantic, and animated banners make our eyes hurt—and the forum hard to read."

I've got an animated glow going on in my banner. Should I 86 it now & just go with a jpg?

Also, Jarred, I'd gotten that PM from you stating no animated avatars, but I don't see that in the guidelines & there are at least 30+ avatars I've seen that are animated ... so did I misunderstand you (again/still) and you really meant the banner?

Banner selection

Banner selection

Choosing the 5 finalists was just a judgement call on our part. We liked the idea of animation, but regardless the banner, the message had to be there as well. If you review the banners, you'll see that many of them have the same theme "Stick This". That just wasn't the right message to send. That narrowed the choices quickly. Good luck to the 5 finalists.

Please be sure we know which banner is yours. We did have a hardware glitch with our server, so if you sent us an email, please send it again just to be sure. We have a new server and everything appears to be running very well :)
