Steve Jobs: “Final Cut Pro is Alive and Well”

Recent firings by Apple have sent many video professionals into a frenzy, leading many to speculate that Apple has plans to sell off it’s Final Cut Studio suite of applications… perhaps even with an announcement around NAB. Needless to say anyone who uses Final Cut on a regular basis is rightfully terrified by these rumors. Good news everyone… there’s no need to worry. Responding to a Mac Soda request for comment, regarding the state of Final Cut Pro, Steve Jobs said the following…
No worries. FCP is alive and well.

Hopefully this will put to rest this issue once and for all. I said it last week, and I’ll say it again… Final Cut Studio is alive and well, and Apple has no intentions of leaving this market.

That's a confidence statement ?, sounds like a polititian making upcoming election promises.
Yes intergrated FCS / Blu-ray playback is badly needed to keep pace with industry changes, and to keep up with windows.

I think FC is their bread and butter, not the software sales but because you need a mac to run it, if they sell final cut, and that company makes a PC version, well then there would be no need for film school hipsters to go out and buy a mac anymore.

Steve Jobs has also said flash memory is a dumb idea for MP3 players, no one would want to watch video on an iPod, they have no interest in making a phone, they have no plans to make a tablet, and that no one reads anymore (which is odd since they are trying to position the iPad as the savior of the print industry).

So, I'll keep paying attention to what Apple does as opposed to what Apple says.

I could have saved alot of money not buying my mac.

Apple has been pretty upfront since they began back in the 1970s that this is their business model. The only reason that they make the Mac OS is to sell hardware, the only reason they make FCS and Logic and every other piece of software they do is so they can sell the hardware. Same reason they have the iTunes music store, to sell iPods. Apple is a Hardware company everything they do is to serve that purpose.

...and all that hardware is made in China for pennys on the dollar..thus the great profits! I'd love to see Apple manufacture in the USA.

Then a mac pro would cost $17,000. But at least it would come with a leather seats option.

I bet Apple's shareholders would sell their stock en masse if Apple decided to move manufacturing to the U.S. Sad to say but in most industries, few can afford to build in the U.S.

When one sends an email from iPhone, it comes with this signature line. iPhone adds it automatically.

They can afford it, but wouldn't be able to make the big profit.

Apple use to be a hardware company now they are a digital media company that sells personal electronics to use their media.

The blog source of this information isn't pro apps centric. It seems equally suspicious that there have been only six posts at the blog in last four months, two of which purport to provide pretty significant "inside information" on the pro apps.

I just don't find either post to be very credible.
