FEATURE: STEP OFF (was "Battle") - Narrative Feature

Okay, here's a truly frightening prospect...Rotten Tomatoes!!!
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/step_off_2011/

Does anyone know any reviewers that like Hip-Hop movies?

I sense a lot of resistence on most blogs and boards etc. who won't even mention the movie might be related to an attitude negative to its Hip-Hop content. So hope to find some reviewers who would enjoy a good Hip-Hop film.

So help me find some...I know dvxusers know some Rotten Tomato reviewers. So post me the names and urls...

Thanks,

Martin

Remember when I was sweating the Rotten Tomatoes? Well, still no official Reviews but an audience review came in fairly positive.

I'm still welcoming DVXusers feedback and if you tell me where you live I'll do a RedBox Search for you like I did for Marlon :)

Or just order it ON DEMAND from your cable service remember Movies/Same Day as DVD :)

Thanks,

-Martin

Wanna win a copy of Step Off? :)

For the record, I have no information on this, so I just post it as a neat little something I found "out there"...nice to see as much pressence as possible.

Actually, 3 lucky winners! :)

Wouldn't you rather have that than The Next Three Days or Daniel Tosh's Happy Thoughts (not even a movie)?

Director Laron Austin and cast members Onira Tares and Errol Sadler appeared on WREK

WREKroom Renaissance (9:00pm - 11:00pm)

you can download the show if interested. They go on about 1 hour into the show.

WREKroom Renaissance has been good at spreading the word about the movie.

I might have a major coup in terms of press coming soon. So stay tuned.

Hey, I'm hearing rumors of it being on shelves at many a SUPER WALMART...like 8 or so at a time. So anyone who sees it there let me know. Otherwise sightings at Frys and Movie Stops and an occasional Walmart on retail shelves. Lots of reports from Amazon sales too.

On Demand? Anyone check their local listings? I know Comcast and Direct TV and Cox and even Dish Network do but I'm just guessing at the rest.

I know this thread isn't as sexy as Corrado II but would love more feedback from dvxusers :) I mean, distribution is distribution and Lionsgate ain't a bad place to land :)

Just want to hear more from the field to get a better picture of the market penetration.

Thanks,

Martin

Martin, feel free to post to my Facebook wall. You can also join my Tieuel Legacy Yahoo group.

Martay, I was at redbox the other day and saw STEPOFF there..looked like a dance type film, which I don't usually watch, but now that I know it was a DVXuser film and found out what it's about, I'm going to check it out ASAP man...even if it's not the usual type of film that I'm into, I always feel a sense of pride when I see a DVXuser doing well..and it definitely gives me a sense of hope..congrats man!

I'm glad to hear all of the GREAT stuff that's happening for STEP OFF. I'll be looking for it myself, I just have to reorganize since my Blockbuster Stores closed and I've resisted Netflix and Redbox. I guess I'll have to sign up and get it. ;-)

Thanks. And don't worry, it's not a dance movie :)

I appreciate it.

RedBox will be faster or iTunes or even On Demand from Comcast or whoever you have as a cable company. "Same day as DVD" Available until May 1st on most systems.

Saw your boy tonight...in fact quite a few folks from the read. Couldn't really catch up because the event was a madhouse of bodies. So, I'll catch up with "him" soon enough and we need to correspond a little more frequently too :)

Take it easy,

Martin

Yeah, Atlanta's quickly growing. I'd say even faster now than ever. I heard about that event, but I'm wiped out. We did a shoot Sunday all day and almost all night, then I had to do my 9 to 5 and by the time my body was catching up. We shot half the night on Wednesday so I got like 3 hours of sleep. But it's all good. I'll be looking out for everything - so May 1st. Cool.

MAY 1st for BATTLE! - BATTLE! BATTLE! BATTLE!

Yeah, sounds like you're pushing it. But a couple little corrections. It's no longer BATTLE...it's now STEP OFF. Also, it's available everywhere I mentioned and more NOW...and at least On Demand on Comcast until May 1st...so don't delay :)

Martay,

You've had success on a low scale, are you able to go into detail like Adam has in his thread about your distribution trials, what you've gotten as far as distro etc or are you not allowed to?

I feel like the board could use another perspective on it all, especially considering the low budget nature of Step Off/Battle.

What he said...I liked Adam's page, in fact so far I live by the examples he's set, but I want to hear the perspective of a much lower budget (and closer to my budget) film because I can't afford Messner and Sizemore...nor are my cojones as large as adam's (yet).

Plus you chose a genre that's not "popular" world wide (even domestic perhaps) and you STILL got distribution..which to me says 1. this movie must be pretty darn good 2. I need to take pointers from this guy to make my own product better :-D

Doubling up on this here. I couldn't afford any names, either, even with some accessible to me. The budget is hyper low, and the chance of success also, but that seems like what Battle had going for it as well. Despite the cautions in Adam's thread, BATTLE DID SELL TO LIONSGATE. That deserves a lot of attention around here.

Granted, I do think there were some niche names present, right?

Either way, if you can afford to be as transparent as Adam, that would be invaluable and, to me, a lot closer to home for a lot of us.

I'll try to open it up a bit. However, we can leave it at the budget is Low and obviously not in the same range as Corrado/Bad Ass.

I still hope to make foreign deals and thus do not want to show my budget hand.

Everything else though, I'm fairly open to discuss. Where do you want me to begin?

My Bad... STEP OFF! STEP OFF! STEP OFF! May 1st for STEP OFF!!! ;-) LOL I think it would be good for yout o share your experiences. You can start at the beginning with your pre-pro how did you figure you'd get this done? What was your strategy to make and sell the movie? why did you choose certain actors, locations, scenes? What was your marketing strategy? etc.
