Great!! I'll see if I can find it.
Okay, man, I saw that it was available on COX last night. I'm going to get it maybe tonight or tomorrow. Yeah, it's $4.99 to watch, but so what! We gotta' show our support for dvxusers and I really want to see it!
Yeah, we shot with the Sony EX1.
We don't really do too much on the technical side. Our BTS is pretty short and centered on the main actor who's a music producer himself. Onira is great, that's our girl, we've worked with her on 2 projects thus far and I think you might be referring to E. Roger Mitchell? Or maybe someone else too. E. Roger is the commander in Battle:LA who let's the troops know that they're not dealing with meteors and he sends them out on their mission. He's a great actor (in fact, voted Best Actor in ATL for 2010 by Creative Loafing) and a very good guy.
Thanks for getting it and all the help.

E. Roger Mitchell is the one. I've seen him in a handful of joints. Also, I've seen Onira a few times. She was a little fly about the mouth toward the end of Step Off. I was surprised to hear that coming from the cutie.
You all have a good project on your hands. I definitely see where the story was going. I'll also add 8 Mile to the list of movies that it will put people in the mind of. I'll share a few pros here.
Pros-
I thought many of the shots were graded nicely. It was dark and helped with the grittiness of the battles. Gully, if you will.
The acting was pretty good. Like many of us filmmakers, there were times that I felt another few takes would've gotten gotten the actors loose with their dialogue. I don't do it everytime but when time allows I like to film until we have a good take from the script and then allow the actors to go off the dome. The ones off the dome sometimes beat what we write. Typically, I'm shooting guerilla-style so I understand the time constraints that we put on ourselves.
The stock footage of the city was tight. I noticed those also on the trailer. Sometimes people don't fit them into their movies very well but ya'll did a good job.
Soundtrack is worth spinning. I haven't heard the mixtape but the movie makes me wanna check that out sooner than later.
Maestro's cockiness was a really good addition along with the darkness of one of the other producers that the lead character lost to the first time (he beat him the second time).
Wanted to see even more with Mitchell's character and the guy (Heat, I think his name was). I felt that the added tension from your lead and each of those characters was something that I missed. Heat was present during the competition at the end but I don't remember seeing Heat and the lead communicate after the initial discussion with his ex present.
I'd definitely watch this film again. Congratulations for completing AND distributing the film.

Martin,
I met Kely in LA at the ABFF around '97. I did see grading and BTS type stuff on here a month or so ago. Back then I saw his film that was in the BET comp (something A.M.). He's pretty guerilla as well.
Yeah, he is. Yeah A.M. Session was that short from BET. Watch out for Kerberos and of course Blood Ties (his 1st feature) is available now through Afterlight Pictures.

I had a film on BET too. It was called, "It Won't Come Off." Small world.
Okay, Martin, I was finally able to check it out! Rented it from Redbox up the street from the house and was excited like a kid. LOL! I have to give you guys props. For those that don't know it, this film is being distributed by Lionsgate. That, to me is a big deal. Great job.
The film had a really good story. I think the acting was pretty good for the most part and convincing. You had some nice city shots incorporated and some really creative cinematography. The audio was good and consistent for the most part, but I noticed several times that there seemed to be voiceovers done, because there was no audio besides the voices. No clothes rustling or sounds of movement. It looked like there was a heavy cc, maybe a tad bit too much, but that's no biggie. I thought this was pretty good for what you guys shot it with. I can imagine how much better it would have looked with a dslr or newer camera. I really think this film is a perfect example of how far a really good story can take a film. You guys didn't have a huge budget or named actors or anything like that and you still made it work, because you had the foundation (the story) to build the film around. Great coming of age story. I tell you what, I sure wanted Rippa' to get off his own shoulders at the beginning. Man, he was pissing me off. I guess that shows I was into the story. Ha-ha!
Anyway, BIG CONGRATS!
