Starting out

Jim, why have you done this? Edited all your posts to have no content? I was really enjoying this informative thread even though I don't dive or have any of the cameras mentioned other than the FS5 but now the whole thread has been rendered useless for anybody in the future by what you have done. That's quite sad I feel.

nothing is ever really deleted on the interweb….

Thread has gone bad - with all the snarky comments its been derailed. The thread has no value given its gone so far off track.

If you cant come in here and have a civil conversation about technical points and the pro's/con's without all the snarky comments then what's the point ?

Better to just move on and forget about it on this thread.

dvxuser is a great resource - but only if you are part of the clique. God forbid you are keen to get started and ask wrong/silly questions.

I gotta call BS on that, Jim. You asked your question and you received very good advice from people. You could take it or leave it, but you did neither. The deletion of your own posts doesn't change the fact that in those posts you insisted on beating a dead horse, going on about your lovely digiprimes. Dreams are free, have as many as you want, but you act like your dream is an accomplishment in itself. I have a dream job and have had many dreams all come true and even ran out of dreams for awhile, had to ask people their dreams to get some new ideas, then went and did many of those other people's dreams and came back and told them thanks. Enough about dreams though, you gotta get into the planning and doing stage. No clique here, but if you were looking for a group to pump you full of sunshine, then you might need to go elsewhere for that.

Jim, I would say it is time to order your f23 with the digiprimes and get on with the project. You did get a lot of input and decided that you knew best. The forum will see you again when you come back asking how to set the camera up because the image you are getting does not look like what you expected. Producing great video is difficult, people tried to help but things do get complicated on the internet and free forums. Take the good with the bad and move forward.

This is turning into a real dream theater.

@Bassman 2003

You said...."You did get a lot of input and decided that you knew best."

This is not quite right. I took some good advice and had a long hard look at the C200 which I was not previously considering. Still looking at it and thinking through all the ramifications. Far from deciding I know best, I listened to what others with far more experience than me on video had to say and then followed through on the heads up and went and looked into it.

That was the good part of the thread. Then the sociopaths and narcissists turned up. They always do. Its unfortunate that a few can spoil things for the rest of us. I feel the thread has gone sour and serves little point now. Given it was my thread and the tiny minds who float around these forums moved in to derail it, I feel its better removed.

I guess this is the place of inflated ego's. Part of the territory I guess when you are dealing with this sort of thing.

Why dont some of you try being polite and keep your opinions of other people's personalities to yourself ? Might be hard for some of you - I get that.

This conversation was about a camera - a specific family of camera's that I decided might be a good fit for *MY* particular needs - very very specific narrow niche needs that I am willing to bet would fit none of you here.

Yet a number of you decided to take it personal - why I dont know.

I started the thread - I ended the thread. There is little value in it now - look at what it has descended into - the posts are now effectively "Flame Wars"

Who needs it? Why waste Bandwidth on this rubbish?

Thanks to the tiny minds that popped up here, this interesting thread is over.

Move on. Nothing to see here now.

Those tiny little minds that have to resort to personal attacks are VERY happy now. Lets not feed them.

My last words on this thread...thanks to those who genuinely participated and had constructive input.

Gotta say this is a very eloquent reply. Wow.
There is a screenplay in this paragraph.

C-Log2 is included, but it's only available when shooting RAW.

But I'm not sure why Canon decided to make it unavailable when not shooting RAW (like with their other cameras).

I'm late to the party here, but CLog 2 was designed only for 10-bit codecs; hence its availability in RAW, but not the 8-bit only MP4.

Canon is now claiming 13 stops with RAW Light. At some point from the initial announcement, it was changed in all of the documentation. Maybe another corporate decision to separate it in favor of C300 Mark II's 15.

The 15 stops is only when developing RAW Lite in C-Log 2. You're right that I don't see them mentioning 15 stops anywhere, but for some reason they also don't seem to mention C-Log 2 anywhere either. Quite odd...

They mention C-Log2 in their own documentation in the 'Professional Workflow' section under 'Features' and that's where they now show 15 stops again. I didn't see it before when I checked back when posting that, but they initially had it right in their main specs/description. Not sure why they are burying it here.

Yes, I'm sure I saw it being touted big and bold on the main specs also. The C-Log 2 image is so flat that I would rather only use it when sending to a pro colorist (and 13 stops is just shy of Alexa territory anyway), so I'm using the 13 stop C-Log 3 anyway.

I bet your right that Canon wants to point more people towards the C300 II, because I'm hearing a lot of people recommend the C200 over the C300 II now unless you really do need a 10-bit broadcast codec (Geoff Boyle for example).

Why don't you take your own advice and quit the thinly veiled snark and condescending comments? Most of the members with real-world experience here, have been more than patient with you. You keep on inserting little jabs which come off as smug, and not in a good way.

Yeah, I've heard this before. What was it, like a whole two days ago or something? You said you were done, didn't you?

However, if I had to wager I'd guess that you are going to stay on here and continue to debate with people because it seems like you are more interested in the debate than you are of actually videoing.

I called it! :)
