Start/stop rec with remote?

I used to have a corded remote for my gh1 but I don't think I ever tried using it for video. Does anyone know if you can start/stop record with one on the gh1/2?

Panasonic says their optional DMW-RSL1 shutter wired remote works with video, too. See p.172 in the GH2 user manual:

"... If you use the remote shutter (DMW-RSL1; optional), ... • Record with Creative Motion Picture Mode (P106) when using for motion picture recording.
Motion picture recording can be started/stopped with the remote shutter. ..."

I use a corded remote and a wireless remote for video on my GH1 and both work perfectly. Unfortunately one can't use them alongside an external mic.

I wonder if you can make a custom cable to have both start/stop and audio?

So when you clap your hands, recording stops & starts? :-)

I think the remote might use a 4-pin plug, so maybe 1 of the 2 mic input channels connectors are still available? If so, could be worth experimenting with custom-made cable/adapter. Maybe.

I bought a cheap, Chinese, wired stop/start control from EBay for my GH1. I assumed that when plugging it into the mic input that there is no way that I could get audio recorded from the camera mic. To my surprise, I do get audio when using this remote in video mode. You can see it mounted on my 2 cam rig. Look at it in the lower right-hand photo mounted just beneath the wireless remote and the Zoom H4n remote. I think, with a custom wired 2.5mm input plug, you might be able to use the wired remote and an audio feed from an on-board audio recorder like the Zoom H4n - the best of both worlds. http://www.digitalwestvideo.com/content/field-production

with my wired shutter release I find that it wont wake the camera up from economy mode, which sucks. you have to manually press the shutter button to wake it up. Something to keep in mind when you shoot. I have a radio remote on the way. looking forward to playing with that.

my $5 chinese ebay remote works perfectly for video, and even has a shutter lock that'll keep the shutter open in stills mode (long exposures.)

Does anyone knows if there's a way to have a remote to start both the GH2 and a sound recorder?
If so which sound recorder (I haven't bought any yet)
