Star Trek

I think we have a . . . mild . . . disagreement on the definition of "mild." :)

You know after reading the websters definition it did mention something about cheese :)

The 2009 model is now more erognomicly improved with a six speed overdrive hyperwarp transmission, heated bucket seats, and rust proof undercoating. It is also more fuel efficent. Times are changing :)

I agree with Jimerson, the Enterprise never looked like that. The 1701 A was close, but that was after a major refit in the first movie. So my comment to Abrahms is 'Have you ever even seen Star Trek?". This looks almost as bad as Bryan Singer's Superman Returns... or even Jon Peter's Wild, Wild West.

Abrams has said many times he never watch star trek when he was a kid, he liked star wars better. Now that he is an adult I'm still not sure if he has ever seen an episode or a movie...

Ha!

ROTFL! :) Ok, I get your point. I like the change, I think it will breed a new group of star trek fans.

I know it extremely well, from the original conceptions to the first pilot version to the second pilot version to the 1st and 2nd season production versions and the changes made for the 3rd season. I know the aborted Phase II ship and every painted panel color of all three versions of the Refit from the first six movies.

At no point did the ship ever look like that -- not on a drawing board, and absolutely not onscreen.

David, I haven't always agreed with you in this thread, but that says everything that needs to be said about this alleged Enterprise.

Just for fun, though, let's pick this thing apart. To me, the saucer is almost entirely from the movies, the connecting dorsal seems to blend the movie version with the McQuarrie "Planet of Titans" version, the secondary hull is kind of the like the movie version if you were watching a 4:3 pan & scan version stretched on a widescreen TV, the nacelle struts again seem to blend movie & McQuarrie... but I think I'm most disappointed in the nacelles, because they seem to be 100% from Gabe Koerner's "Cylon" Enterprise.

I just don't know what to make of this film. Some days I think that Abrams actually gets it, but more and more lately it seems like he gets it about as much as John Logan did... :(

The Planet of the Titans version came to mind (that thing is filed under "Thank GOD it Never Happened"); everyone, of course, was expecting Gabe Koerner's version because of the nacelles in the teaser trailer. Not a big fan of Gabe's version, but I'd rather have that than this one.

Vektor's renditions above are probably the strongest "updating" I've seen of any of them.

Trekky's know the Enterprise is not powered by laughing gas. Mustangs are!
Is it Trekkies or Trekkers..? What a debate that can cause! One of my favorite stories involves Gene Roddenberry giving a lecture at a convention, and he mentions "Trekkies". One geek in the audience shouts out "It's TrekkERs!". Roddenberry looks at him and says "I wrote the damn show, I can call them whatever I want!".

How can you say that? It looks almost identical... besides the angle on that picture is different... at the end of the day, I do not care... it's about the characters, not the darn ship... it looks nearly the same, and if he portrays the characters correctly, and tells an engaging story, I'm on board!

I thought the Mustang examples above illustrate my point pretty well, but I guess it comes down to caring about the details, and being an aficionado vs. a casual fan. For most people, I suppose, any ol' car that gets you to where you want to go is just fine.

Well, you asked "how I could say that." :) There's a BIG difference between the ships, just as there's a big difference between a classic Mustang and a 1978 Mustang II.
