Looks of the camera?

Yeah, hard to gauge exactly, but then again that's essentially the point. :) It's difficult to get a feel for precisely how big the camera is from a body-only render; a lens helps to give some perspective. It looks to me to be about the same length as an HVX but a bit slimmer... the HVX sure is a bloated thing. Either way, compact and modular is definitely the way to go!

yeah.. think small, maybe a little taller, but definately not bloated looking.

Unfortunately, if you're new to the business and don't have a great Demo Reel and/or established client list, this isn't necessarily true. While I personally do like the design of Red One (especially after years of trying to handhold 535s with zooms and the like), most clients who are willing to give new guys a gamble might get a little nervous when they see you come to the location with the Red. Of course this is only applicable if you are getting into the commercial/industrial game. If you're making movies, you're good to go!

NO. first off if your going into a commercial situation and they dont already know about RED then your prolly A.) signed up for a deffered payment scam on craigs list. or B.) your shooting jimmy highschools class project.
and besides... have you ever seen the genesis barebones body configuration.. its the same thing.. a box .. in our case a tube.. once you put your lens on, follow focus, matte box, digital magazine. blah blah blah.. then it will have the "LOOK" of a camera..

remember... camera asthetics wont shoot a great picture.. a great dp will shoot a great picture.

My other gripe about the RED, is from what I'm reading, it requires a "Cage" attached to be able to add a monitor, etc... Thats sounds just a little weird. So, this "cage" will cost what? Another 3k?

Landon... you do NOT need a cage to add a monitor. There are plenty of mounting points on the camera to mount it directly. The cage is a convenient option if you want more flexibility and want to mount everything plus the kitchen sink.

There will be a time when some overzealous new RED owner bolts a kitchen sink to the cage just to make this point.

Don't forget the EVF.

But yes. You'll need the RED-RAIL or equivalent to mount all those goodies, AFAIK. Gotta mount those rods to something.

Landon, check out this composite, It's pretty close to a cageless hand-held kit.

So,
So, I can mount a monitor, The Recording Device, Battery, Lens, Matte Box, Follow focus on the camera without the cage?

Sweet Jesus. Anyone?

eheh.. more than everything else, this thread is now pro  post-modern red design vs the old fashioned landon's tip :thumbdown 99% away..

If you look at the rail/cage design, the four cage bits are but a few pieces of a much larger system. I would wager that all of the bits that [whoever that was] wants to mount on the camera will be mountable on the lower portion of the rail only.

How we can leave the RED rail + Body on the floor or in shooting locations ? Any special stand for the RED one with Rail systems ? Like a Metal Stand something ?
