watched the trailer

WOW. great job. shots, comp, lighting, acting, sound, all there. Will this be available on DVD?

I would cut the trailer down, however. 3:30 is way too long. I think you could cut it at 1:50 and be done with it.

wow man this looks really good, i would definitely be interested in watching this entire film. It is good to see some different subject matter in the super low budget arena, not that i have anything against action/horror etc.

I do agree the trailer needs to be shorter, maybe a little voice over.

Great work! cant wait to see more!

Thanks for the input guys. I have been involved in the production of so many "samurai vs. vampire in the future" movies that my head will blow up if I see another one. Doing something different is all that drives me now....

As for the trailer, I do have a shorter one sans any dialogue:

I didn't use any voice over mainly because unless you have someone with a dynamic voice I think they sound cheap if only because we are used to those two or three guys that do every trailer. Those few guys that do it professionally are EXPENSIVE!

Mate looks awesome. Now cut that trailer to 30 seconds and youve got gold. Also - I feel like I am saying this a lot lately - remove any copyright material from your trailer thats not authorised.

Thanks again gang.... glad to be back. Usually if I'm not busy trying to finish the last I am struggling to start the next. But am in the middle now so thought I would take some time to catch up.

As for the music, currently the trailers are just going to be used for sales so the rights clearance won't be needed. But you are correct in using it for anything else (included on the DVD, etc.) it would need an original score. But I probably won't have an official sales trailer until I color correct the film and use those clips.

Thanks for the input on the length. I think I was trying to make a trailer show all the elements of the film (drama, humor, etc.) so I was putting a bit too much info in. I will do some work on it though. Currently I am doing the same thing to the feature to get it ready for the final (I hope) preview screening before locking the picture. It is always hard when you are so close to something to know what to cut (or in some cases even add) to make it work better. But at an hour-fifty ( 110 minutes) I think it needs another 5 minutes shaved off. But trying to find where is always a tough choice, particularly when a performance is really good or a shot is a favorite. But, I think this is where we seperate the men from the boys! When you know better to see past your own personal connections to the project that don't translate.

I'll keep you updated as we finish up.....

Very cinematic, man. Trailers are all way too long but at least I got to see more of the footage! Not my kinda movie, but it looks pretty interesting.

COooool.

I really enjoyed it, but, as previous posts, agree the trailers are too long. Personally I preferred the second trailer, but not sure on the music.
I'd love to see this film though.

As soon as I get the finished trailer, I will post it. I get a pretty straight down the middle opinion on the trailers. Some like the first, others find it too dramatic where the other offers more of the story. The shorter one is 3 minutes and I usually like them between 2:30 and 3:00. At least that is the common length at the markets for most of them.

It is certainly not a movie for everyone but that is the beauty of doing low budget films in that you can take more risks and do things that appeal to a smaller group of people. If I get lucky I can make a few more bucks and do a "for the masses/producers film", ie the HD film:

www.grizzlypeakfilms.com/DOTMTrailer.mov

and then do the smaller films where I can appeal to a smaller audience and still make our money back. But I am always very interested in "The Art Of The Trailer" as it is such a great marketing tool when done well. Over the years the ones that stick in my head are Cliffhanger, the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, Almost famous, Spiderman, etc. Trying to tell your story, sell the "mood" and get people wanting to see more is always a fun trick to try and achieve. I usually try and cut my trailers in my head before shooting (the second trailer and the music I had in my brain before even shooting). But, I think after I get the film locked and any other pick ups done, I will cut a new one.

Man this film looks so well done... please tell me you going to be selling the DVD in PAL aswell as NTSC?

I dont care the trailers are long, the more you get to see of this film the better. You have clearly put so much heart into this project, and thats inspirational. Keep it up.

Wow. This movie looks fantastic. Like a lot of people have said, I felt the trailer was too long, but wow. The shots look great.

I appreciate the time and the enthusiasm folks! Glad to know it is at least going in the right direction. I am currently doing some tweaks to shorten the trailers now. I will be doing my final test screening in a week or so and we'll see how it goes. Always kind of scarey when you finally seal off the film and let it go.

I will of course let everyone know when the sales are in and when it will be available.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

SquidLips, mind posting some info on your main actor, seems like he has some talent. Theres always people hear looking for good actors.

Just saw the trailer -- I'm a little late! -- and I'm impressed. Looks really good. Well shot, good story... A little too much Forrest Gump creaping through in the lead, but the story is obviously far from stealing anything and looks to be trying to be honest to the issues... I'd watch the whole thing. Get some distribution for this - you deserve it.
