Does anyone have any succesfull experiences with Dynapel's steadyhand software for image stabilization with HD? I have some helicopter footage that I would like to smooth just a small amount. I use Vegas and Window's Vista for NLE. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

While it does not help you on the PC platform, I'll just note for Mac users that Shake's Smoothcam node can do some amazing stabilization.

Its worth noting that smoothcam works in some cases and sucks in others. It can make a total mess of your footage.

What you are basically looking for is called tracking and after effects can do this just as well as shake. The smoothcam is basically a dumbed down multipoint track. Its a matter of placing trackers within your picture to follow the position of cerrtain elements and then stabilising those elements within the frame. You may have to scale up or pan and scan your frame.

The best result yet for me is using Syntheyes to create a 3D track os the sequence, then extract the projected position and rotational data and export that to AE for rock steady stabilization.
