C200: SSD adapter for the C200

Hi all!
Just wanted to share that I have successfully made a recording to a SSD. I took a chance and bought this device:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Videotech-...m=112628203274&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

I powered it off my V-mount battery and everything works perfectly. This morning I used a 1TB 860EVO SSD which gave me 133 min and only cost me $300!!! I made a 5min recording at 24P. I'll make more tests later.

Of course there is still the door sensor problem, but I think that I can come up with something. Also, I was able to shut the door enough to trigger the door sensor and hit record. Then, I let the door go and the camera kept recording. So, there is that.
The door doesn't have to be closed for the cfast light to go to green.
It looks like there is a flat piece of plastic on the bottom of the door that presses a switch inside the camera body.
As the door rotates toward shut that lever presses the switch and the cfast record light goes to green.
This is before the door latch begins to even engage.
It happens on mine when the door is about 0.2" open.

I went with this guy, he made a USB cable for a few bucks more so I can power the SSD through the USB port on my V mount.

There's a thread on facebook with a couple of guys trying to figure out a solution to the Door. My temp fix is to just gaff tape it for now. Also $300 for 1tb is such a ripoff!, I just got 2tb on amazon for $308 with free overnight. I have several SSD's however so ill test a few this coming week.

No more excuses guys, Shoot RAW! :happy:

What about this one?
Can accept not only msata but also m.2 ssd drives up to 2TB capacity, 266min of raw footage! Also, to connect to a pc/mac you need a cheap 10eur usb3.0 to sata dock.

Aslo the presure on the doore is less with mine adapter cause I'm using flat cable and not coaxial:

No doubts, solidpro have a great industrial design, I like it a lot, still overpriced for what it does IMHO...

What powers the drive?

Interesting, I have debated about investing in one of these systems. But as the cost of CFast is dropping through the floor (The Freetail 256GB is now $179.00, so with two at a $380.00 total, you have a 68 minutes of Cinema RAW Light recording) these systems are losing their appeal to me. I guess if you have a need to record hours and hours of CRL, these are cool but I already own six 256GB CFast cards and I am just waiting for user reliability reports on the Freetails. And I try to avoid coming back to the office with 6-12 hours of CRL anyway, it's just too large for those kinds of shoots.

OTOH, having to shove a cable through the Cfast card door and bend the plastic and hinge to close it and have yet another cable and device hanging off of my camera (I already typically have a shotgun wiith a coiled XLR cable or one or two wireless mic receivers hanging off the camera), makes this layout not very appealing. Over the year I have owned and used my C200, I have evolved from full shoulder mount with the Zacuto VCT Pro, arms, handgrip relocaters, cables, EVFs, to bare camera, cradled, with nothing hanging off of it besides a mic. For shooting documentary style where anything can happen and at any time and you have to react and get the shot quickly and seamlessly, less is more. Having extrea cables, brackets, an SSD, etc. hanging off the camera is a nuisance in about 60% of my shooting scenarios. For sit down interviews, great. But for handheld/cradled, not so great.

Hello anatusa!
Parts? OK:
-cfast box with custom internal pcb;
-sata cables;
-msata or m.2 sata enclosure, you have to mod it so it can accept not only 5v from pc but also 3.3v from camera;
-power sata cables;
-solder iron+flux;
-shrinking tubes;
-thermal glue;
-various.

As you can see all stuff available on ebay (not the pcb that I made custom). Put all things together and you are to go! :)

SSD is powered by camera. No, regular 2.5" ssd drives need 5v so you need external power. For "unpowered" version you need msata or m.2 sata ssd.
In my pictures there diferent designs, the last one is in the third picture. Yes, it is enough power.
