Well, I am busy plugging away on Spy Master. I like what is happening with it. I had my doubts.... there are many new "elements" in it for me. All in learning and experimentation.

In other news... (I know that I should say anything after what happened last time!) I am scheduled to light Obama tomorrow and Hillary on Tuesday!
This time I feel confident that these gigs will happen as the Secret Service has taken my information and checked me out. I actually met them yesterday. Kinda cool.

Ahh, I missed the cool equipment modifications on the front page of the thread.
That's a good idea with the wheels on the tripod. are they buggy wheels? how smooth is it in terms of slight shock absortions?
We made a snory-cam for a few shots from a traveling back pack and an old tripod. will see if I can post some pics of it next time.
btw, I made a cameo in our film, or more like a stand in (one of the guys didn't show up), and boy! whata mistaka to maka! sure your's will turn out better than mine

The wheels on the tripod are actually a real Manfrotto/Bogen item. The 3067 dolly. The wheels are solid, not pneumatic. I can't image that the dolly is much for "tracking" a shot unless you were on some very smooth floors.
I will say that just having the tripod on a dolly is great for moving the set-up around. Very handy. It also serves as a great spreader!!!

When I was advancing the Hillary gig, there were the "interns" or whatever the campaign hires to do the advancing but they're was also the Secret Service guys. It was so obvious who was who. The S.S. guys just "look" cool. The way that stand, look around, nod. Whatever they do... there is a "thing" about them.
I'll take my camera with me today in case I find that I can shot some footage!
As for the "new elements..." I guess it is more like "style elements" that I have never done and may take a beating on. I've already been warned by one dvxuser who told me that I was going to get a bunch of crap because of it.
Oh well. I am just trying to learn how to shoot and tell stories. (and besides, I like what I've done with Spy Master!)

Okay folks! Here is what i did on Sunday....
MISSION..... TO PROVIDE LIGHTING ON LOWER STEPS OF GAZEBO... (of course, you'll have to focus your lights in the day light and HOPE that you hit the mark when it starts to get dark!)
Of course, I couldn't do it without my old friend!!!
The results were very acceptable and the organizers were happy! (I will admit that I really didn't do a lot... I mean, 6-575 watt Source 4 Parnels! That's about all I could do... but it worked.)
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

How many booms are in the shot!?!? (this shot is taken as Obama is arriving... I love the woman stretching her arms in the air with her little "point-n-shoot" camera... I am sure that she got a frame full of heads!)
The Press area. These guys were a hoot to watch.... most of them were very pro. BUT this one guy, who had a dvx, didn't have a clue how to mount his camera on the tripod!!! I saw him talking on the phone, getting instructions and he just couldn't get it. So, he became his own tripod. (he's in the light blue shirt holding his dvx!)
After the "Arrival," the press moved to their area and began to set-up. This one guy barked out "Tungsten!" The others moaned. (Yeah, they would all like HMI's!) One guy said to me... "Can you turn those off!" (he did say it with a smile.) Finally, someone ran out with a white sheet of paper so they could all White Balance.
There wasn't a lot of press at this function (My gig with Hillary tomorrow is supposed to have the Four Big Networks on hand!) but there was a few of each...
Writers...
Reporters...
And Sound Engineers.... (Man, I need one of these guys!!!)
There was also the Secret Service.... These guys looked "bad a$$"
Here is a photo of at least 3 SS dudes surrounding Mr. Obama....
And if you are one of those SS dudes that isn't "bad a$$" (which I didn't know there were any!) you end up with perimeter duty!

This guy cracked me up... he just looked so wrinkled and well... you can see what I mean! But he knew how to do his job... I mean, when I tried to move my ladder closer to get a shot from it, he told me no and made me back up!!!
