Speed Racer

I certainly didn't grow up on Speed Racer, but I still liked the movie. It was visually ridiculous, which I loved (although, maybe not for some people)--and the story really wasn't terrible (it's a kids' movie). That in itself gives it a slight edge over most summer blockbusters.

Interesting.

Haven't seen Speed Racer yet, but I find this "Wachowski brothers bashing" a little bit harsh.

I sincerely can't consider the Wachowskis bad storytellers. Where the 2 Matrix films that came after the first one inferior to the original? Yes they were. Bad movies? "Fantastic Four", "X-MEN Last Stand" bad? I don't think so.

Also, has anyone seen V for Vendetta? Written ( or "adapted") by the Wachowskis? Great script.

They are good storytellers in my book. Maybe Speed Racer will prove me wrong. Will post after viewing it this weekend.

However, they where completely off on the subject: Speed Racer would never be a Box Office success. It was not that remarkable of a show- not as remarkable, as, say, the poorly adapted Transformers that was box office gold.

Now if the Wachowskis went for "Dragon Ball"...

I agree V for Vendetta is a great script! I enjoy the concept a lot, glad Hugo Weaving (agent Smith) could play V. I've become a big fan of his! But, the film is fairly solid. So I definitely agree that the brothers aren't bad storytellers.

And I saw Speed opening day and was surprised. The film looks great, the colors pop, everything really saturated and bright. Which as Dust'n the callipygous said, I dig that. But, yeah, its definatly not for everyone! So but the film is a KIDS movie, and from time to time you have to put up with some of these moments, but they are never too excrusciating long. THey are fairly quick, although they did nothing for me.

I also thing the animation and visual effects are really well done. John Gaeta, the visual effects sup from the Matrix Trilogy is back here, and continually knows how to achieve the look the Wachowski's are looking for. I think they are slick and everything really looks good, for the most part, but out of an entirely fake movie, essentially, I won't complain over a few. But, I think where it lacks is the explanation in the action. To the pt. where things are happening, but we don't really know why. In other worlds we really don't know the rules of this race or track and the film kind of goes on Auto pilot. I can still enjoy, but I feel detached. But other than that, I enjoyed the film.

"Bound" is still absolutely the tightest, leanest, cleanest, best storytelling the WBros have done.

Constrained budgets clearly bring out the best in them.

Saw Speed racer the other day. Post viewing, it felt like my brain had melted ever so slightly, but in a good way. Sure some of the VFX looked cartoony, but who cares? I heard theres an IMAX version at some cinemas, that must be like taking acid.
