Speed Racer

Two words...***** tits.

I don't know what that means, but Goodman was excellent in the role.

The film was visually brilliant. The W. Brothers are geniuses at putting things on the screen that you've just never seen before. I did have to role my eyes during the gangster truck shoot out scene when they ramped to slow motion and used the same sound cue from the bullet time sequences.

The story didn't bother me at all and I even kind of liked how they would build the flashbacks into the racing sequences.

All in all this is simply something that I've never seen on the screen before, and coupled with a half-way decent story, I really enjoyed the film. I think it deserved a better reception than it has received.

The matrix and reloaded were good. Speed Racer was one hell of a Trainwreck. I took my daughter to see it and she did'nt even like it. It was a bad movie, PERIOD. The race sequences were broken up so much, that they were not enjoyable. I do realize it was a kids movie and I am not a kid but the incredibles was a kids movie and it still holds up on so many levels. The entire movie was just a disaster in my opinon. and they are good directors. as far as the cross-dressing thing, never heard it until now, but to each his own.

THEY BETTER NOT SCREW THIS UP

They did.

I feel bad for the Wachowskis. They've taken themselves out of the game now and proved that, and I can't beileve I'm saying this, they were a one-trick pony. No matter how visually awesome The Matrix was at the time, they have now proven that they are extremely untalented at telling stories - and even lost their ability to stage their bread-and-butter - action sequences. It was when I saw that upside-down fight sequence in Matrix Revolutions when I realized they had clearly run out of ideas. that extends right into Speed Racer. Seeing the 300 million dollar race sequences in this film -- I was embarrassed. I mean paying homage to the original "cartooney" cartoon is one thing. But making clunky cheesy cgi animation where you should have smooth cool exciting animation really cemented it for me. These guys are dead as filmmakers. Move on.

Remember when the Wachowskis and M. Night were two (three) of the most exciting up-and-coming filmmakers on the planet? Gosh, how far we have fallen.

I don't know about that. The Matrix was ok, but it didn't blow me away like everyone else. As far as M. Night, I liked Sixth Sense, but they just didn't really thrill me after that. But yet I liked Electra... Go figger.

please... PLEASE... not another M Night bashing thread, there are already a few of those out there if you want to add to them.

I haven't see Speed Racer, but even if i do and hate it, I'm still gunna cut them some slack at least for 1 more more flick. Not that you or anyone else should, but that's just how I feel. And I have enjoyed every one of M. Night's flick to one extent or another.

I'm not really bashing him, and yeah, there were certainly some good twists in his movies. It just wasn't the same magic that Sixth Sense had. Same goes for the Matrix trilogy, Indiana Jones, or any number of serial movies. It's a hit or miss thing even you can't deny. Doesn't mean they weren't worth watching though.

Sorry, I only mentioned him because they came up around the same time. This won't become an M. Night thread. But yeah, so anyway, what's up with The Happening? Does that look bad or what? Haha. But seriously. I decided to try and find one good thing about Speed Racer. So.... I guess the monkey was kind of funny.

Man, I loved Speed Racer. I felt it played a wonderful homage to the old cartoon that I enjoyed as a young child. I was laughing practically the whole way through at the wonderful cheesiness of every scene. Did the Wachowski brothers show us anything we haven't seen before? some would say yes, others no. But I do think that the images they created were particularly spectacular. (I loved the beginning of The Crucible where the queen is watching for the sun).

What is it that everyone hates about it? Are they just not Speed Racer fans. Did they not grow up with this wonderful show?

Some things go over well, some don't. Some people just won't like anything because it insults them in some fashion... Uppity people!

To me that's the crux of the matter. If you didn't grow up enjoying Speed Racer for everything that Speed Racer is (monkey and all) then there's no way that you could like this movie.
